I have accepted a job from my agency for a client in Crediton tomorrow and have been told to come prepared for a night out just incase. If I end up nighting out it will be quite close to Crediton.
I’ve topped up my wet wipes and got my all seasons sleeping bag out the loft but I have no idea where to stop.
Replies or pms with your local knowledge of places which are not lay-bys but which are good places to night out will be gratefully received. I’m thinking places either side of the M5 between J25 and J30. I know there are a multitude of services but you lot don’t tend to rate them.
Does it matter what I do with my card? Do I pop it while I’m on daily rest and put it back in the next morning and do a manual entry or keep it in and put it on rest?
Leave your card on over night on rest.
As for parking can’t help.
Years ago I used to regularly park on estate next to newton abbot race course but that must been 7 years ago now probably changed since then then
Lots of people pop their cards overnight. Personally I End Country UK and pop it on rest, the next morning I select start country Uk and put it on other work, whatever you’re more comfortable with.
As for stopping, I’m not really familiar with junction numbers but I’m guessing it’s around Bridgwater? If so there’s a very good truckstop there that the Cumbrian lunatic once led me astray in. Good luck and enjoy. It’s only purgatory if you let it be.
How do you do “end country UK” without pressing the eject button? Do you do it via main menu and then put it on rest?
Thanks for the suggestion. Not a bad guess. I’ll look it up, though I think I’d be a bit further south than Bridgwater. I’m thinking more between Taunton and Exeter.
Definitely want to enjoy it! Not dreading it at all, in fact I think I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get to do it, so I won’t rush
Go into menu, it’ll give you the options, no need to eject the card, have a play but don’t press the confirm button without being sure that it’s what you want l
It sounds waaay more difficult than it actually is. The thing to remember is that with any manual entry nothing actually happens until you select confirm.
J.24 Bridgwater Truckstop…good place to park, good showers, good food, choice of 2 pubs next to it.
I once got led astray there by a strange guy claiming to be a Geordie, but he cant be, he hates football and talks Smoggie.
No truckstops after that s/b, but Kingsmill ind est J28 Cullompton,.which is a busy place and well lit up.
Or even same junction, Longbridge ind est much smaller, bit ‘lonlier’ for you maybe, but a good pub doing meals right next door…or you could park Kingsmill and walk over m.way bridge.
Not much in Exeter maybe apart from Sowton and Marsh Barton ind ests, the park at Clyst has closed now.
Or further down A30 Belstone services…open all night, or Okehampton picnic area at junction with the Tavistock road, with 24 hour service station across road.
I can’t help with any local knowledge down there sorry as I’ve only ever stopped at Services, but if it does become a night out, I would try to get parked up with plenty of drive time and working time spare, just in case.
I’ve only ever done one night out and got lucky with a good parking spot (the ones with the picnic road sign) on the route back to base, but I didn’t really plan to get to that specific one and could have just as easily ran out of time and ended up in a roadside layby and got no sleep.
Also the night heater may come in handy if this morning’s temperature was anything to go by!
As an oldie genuinely not knowing, do lorries with old style disc tachos still exist, if so, I suppose they must be legal?
Or, have conversions been forced on the population, a bit like old lorries pre tachos had to have great big cylinders bolted to the top of dashboards?
@driveress Was that supposed to be your first ever night out then? I can remember my first one still now, nearly 60 years ago, very excited. Trouble is it was in the freezing cold Bridge (or West End?) cafe in Gloucester.
Yes, came off whilst I was moving, probably quite low speed -30 ish- but I can’t be certain where it happened. I think it must have just rolled into a hedge. No one flagged me down or anything, so hopefully no damage.
Just being recovered now and I’ll tell you what, these recovery guys are heroes. He’s got an amazing bit of kit. I’m half loaded with cladding/roofing stuff in a 26t.
