So I had my first shift today and I’ve ballsed up my driver card already. I started at 6 this morning and eventually got in the cab at 6:15 so I thought I’d put a manual entry in for other work starting at 6.
So at the end of my shift the TM downloads my card and it brings up a daily rest infringement, turns out the manual entry had me on other work from midnight to 6:15? How is this possible on my first ever shift?
Anyway I’ve done a printout and tried to write some sort of explanation on the back, I hope this covers me, I’m pretty sure I put other work starting at 6. Does anyone know what could have gone wrong?
Also on the printout the last symbol showing is other work, so next time I use it will my card think I’ve been doing other work since I pulled my card at 4 today or does it record it as rest?
Anyway a bit about my day.
I had 21 drops around Sheffield delivering soft drinks. For someone on their first day it was very demanding, reversing in to side streets off busy main roads, parking on narrow roads in the middle of housing estates trying to leave enough room for other vehicles to pass etc. Not to mention losing about 2 stone in sweat handballing hundreds of 2 litre 6 packs of pop about.
But you know what…I loved every minute of it!
Well used to shifting cases of drinks about in my job. Don’t envy you in today’s heat though.

The printout will cover you, it’s best to do 2 so you can hand one in when the card is downloaded and keep the other with you in case you get stopped, but it shouldn’t really matter anyway.
Next time you insert the driver card make sure it’s showing rest or a question mark (?) for the time the card was out of the tachograph.
I’ve no doubt there will be people telling you not to do manual entries, whether or not you do manual entries regularly at-least learn to do them properly so you can when you need to.
Overall it sounds like you had a pretty good experience and enjoyed it so well done
