First day of work as a class 2 driver at Vestey , any tips

Hello ladies and gents

I am 32 yers old and got my Class 2 licence nearly 15 months ago but I have not been using it because I have been studying something else .
however for the next three weeks I don’t have any school or studying to do so I thought this is a great opportunity to do some driving work to gain experience and finally use my licence and do what I enjoy doing which is driving trucks .

I managed to get agency work through ‘get staff’ agency to do multi drop for Vestey foods in petersfield .

Tomorrow is going to be my first day which literately would be my first ever job as a truck driver .
the agency just sent me the address of the place and name of the person I should report to and nothing else so I really don’t know what to expect when I turn up at work tomorrow .

I wondered if anyone can help me with anything I should know that might make my life a little bit easier tomorrow .
any tips or advice would be appreciate , also would be great to hear from anyone who had experience with either Vesteys or the agency ’ get staff " .

will they provide me with HGV satnav ? or do I need to have my own satnav ? because I don’t have one .

Thanks in advance for your help

Nick

When you arrive, just be honest that it is your first shift. Hopefully the agency will have explained the situation, but you never know.

The ideal scenario would be to be paired up with someone on your first day.

There may or may not be a company satnav. For multi-drop, a satnav would be advisable. The question of whether it needs to be a truck one is a topic that has been debated many times and there is no correct answer.

From personal experience I only felt the need for a truck satnav or app when I moved to artics (less scope for getting turned). Not to say I didn’t get myself in a few ‘situations’ along the way doing residential deliveries etc. In all cases, you just reverse or get turned when you come across a low bridge or weight restriction. You then build up a bit of knowledge as you do the job.

If you feel you need a truck satnav, possibly try an app such as Sygic Truck. If you don’t need it you can always cancel and you haven’t outlayed hundreds.

I do hope you like London you’ll see a lot of it

Sounds like you’ve worked for Vestey , would you mind sharing a little bit more of your experience please ?

Yes hopefully they will pair me up with someone ,I have told the agency that I have zero hour experience, however i don’t think they would do it as I’m only going to be working for them for two or three weeks .

In case of sat nav , worst case scenario I’ll just my iPhone’s satnav.

Thanks for your comment mate

Road Lords might be worth downloading. Don’t rely solely on it though. Good luck for tomorrow. Slow and steady wins the race!
