As title says, first day back after 2 weeks and 3 days off…retirement looking more attractive after experiencing time away from job with my lovely Mrs… even if I have had manflu for most of it…so she might argue with that.
Still, I’ve got a week off booked end of Jan for a short break somewhere.
Anyhoo not too bad as it’s a dinnertime start.
Heading down eventually on Fri at Penzance, after a few drops in middle of nowhere ‘outback’ in Devon/Cornwall farms…should be fun if snowing.
So basically what I’m asking is…what’s it like down SW for snow and crap weather ?
Not TOO bothered, if I get stuck, then so be it.
Worse conditions to be stuck under in a roomy top range motor with a fridge full of meals and beer, with Sky Sports and Netflix on the tablet, whats not to like.
This is me trying to put on a positive spin btw.
Just hope bloody night heater works.
May feel better about it all if we beat the Arsenal tonight.
Up in Manchester. Way we’ve had bits of snow n frost.
Nothing to serious.
Yet the counciil who ever they contract work to (Suez I think)
Have deemed it to dangerous empty bins. My area was due Monday still not done.
Not that bad not like we’re countryside middle noware.
How can they deem about an inch if that as dangerous all have to do is put it on the machinery.
I pity drivers who drag cages with square wheels though snow etc doing store deliveries.
They should refuse to work not the bin man
The White Hart was always a good pub there - tho haven’t been for a while.
I guess you’ll come off the A30 at Crowlas for Ludgvan - then find a narrow lane for your delivery.
You might have to reverse Granny’ from London’s Porsche 4x4 or similar if on a single track road to destination - or do us all a favour & crush it
B3309 is fine
Eglos (Church) Lane, tight but not too many trees or obstructions apart from Granny
Depending where in Eglos Lane you are going, Long lane might be better, and come in from the other end Google Maps.
Conway Bailey & RR are that way a lot to Varfell Farm for Dafs & Caulis.
Ok so you mean by pass the B3309 off A30, to B3311 turn off further down.
Place I’m going to is ‘Blue Horizon ,.Castle gate’ …not sure if it is an ind est a site or what.
Cant see it on Google.
It’s fine if you dont know it,.I’ll be ringing the guy anyway.
Cheers.
Thinking about it, best stay B3309 as its a good road by Cornish standards, then Eglos.
I don’t know Blue Horizon but it could be tied in with the camp site.
After you leave there you can do a right onto Long lane & then first left past Varfell (You’ll see Conway Bailey & others there) then its back onto the A30 from there, you’ll probably have to nudge out as its always busy.
Good Luck
To be fair I did two jobs from Knutsford one on Friday and one on Monday and it looked like they’d had some considerable snow fall over the weekend .Which was causing havoc as it melted on Monday.Flooded roads everywhere and anywhere using my default M6 avoidance routes via Macclesfield and Leek to Tamworth.Which got interesting early evening on the 515 around Sudbury.Fields either side of the road looked like the Zuider Zee and a new river across the road.I think some of the trucks which made it through going Northbound were surprised by the wading abilities of the Land Rover Defender heading Southbound.I made sure it was stopped and the engine was switched off as their bow waves went over the bonnet.
Hope the night heater works !!! How bloody amateurish , surely before starting a week away this time of the year you’d check whether it worked before you left ? Then either get it fixed or change to a motor that has one that does work
As for weather ( midlands ) , journey to work through ungritted roads was the worst i have had , nightmare getting up hills , and one particular lane I slid straight over the junction ( good job it was 2 am with no cars about , next day was just water every where , came over brow of hill to a deep flood , ■■■■ , thought that’s a flooded engine , but chugged a bit but kept going .
Lorry , with snow / ice I refused to take a daf xg out as haven’t got diff locks , took actross with diff locks & renowned traction & had no issues , must admit other than 4 th step ( keep forgetting & ending up as a pile on floor ) I’m really warming to them ,bloody comfortable .
Mrs has a heated windscreen ,that takes seconds to clear the windscreen , when I pointed out what a stupid idea it was to put cardboard on the windscreen, I didn’t get thankyou for the advice , I got don’t slurr at me , and your teas in the fridge , she can fill her own water bottle up this week .
Yep I am pretty amateurish…
(However I’m also a bit flippant and tongue in cheek.)
I know fine well the night heater worked, there is no way in hell I’d night out in winter without one, (or take another motor, I like my own.) …those days are long gone.
Thanks for the advice though…I think.
This time of year I used programme the night heater to come on àn hour before started my shift. Then could get in truck do checks and basically set off. Yet others used spend ages defrosting there trucks clearing windows etc .
Not to hard to set a timer plenty of you tube videos stuff on the net to show you how.
Makes life easier.
Then again though all pointless unless you have a dedicated truck
