My brother in law drove the Commer from new and what a ■■■■■ that was. Too short a wheelbase meant it didn’t like going round corners if the roads were slippy, he finished up in someones front garden coming out of Haunchwood Colliery and in the ditch near Coleshill. He went to work for Smith Bros Tamworth in the end because it was too dangerous a beast.

Hello all, I’m new so you’ll have to bare with me.
I spent many a happy school holiday in various Haywards wagons. mostly there first ERF b series(fgd980t) but also Guys,Volvos, the odd scania , marathons, buffalos and clysdales.
I also remember many of the firms mentioned in this thread and others, I’m quite sad to see that loads have gone.
But its nice to see the pictures and remember many happy trips with “Blue” all over this country.
If any of you remember Dave “Blue” Bradford Please say hello.
Ps a mate of mine used to be a fitter at bowdens and tells me many a tale.

Does anybody remember Jack and Joeseph Warr from Briely Hill, they were coal merchants but also ran a couple six wheeler tippers, always very clean and well looked after.I think the last ones they ran were Reivers, black cabs, red running gear, silver and blue lettering, even better if anyone got a photo…Dan.,

No, sorry curnock, I remember Robinsons with the smart brown Atkinson`s, and coilers at Gt Wyrley, (opposite where the road out of Cheslyn Hay met the Walsall to Cannock Rd)
Oh, and Dennis Burton, had many deals with him on old lorries, lived in the old Mine Managers house, on the site that is now the industrial estate where John Raymond have their depot. Hardly recognise the area now!!! Cheerio for now.

They used to carry out of shotton with us, Ray drove the Sed Atki 400, little bloke …like a jockey, and ■■? Big lad who drove the Borderer they had real tidy trucks, not sure how many they ran? Only recall seeing those 2. The lad who drove the Borderer had a bit of an OFF entering Whitchurch one morning on the 41, 1977 ish…but made it to shotton!!!
Have never seen any of their trucks on the TN thread…a few of Hargreaves from Cannock who also carried out of shotton! remember and old chap , Noël■■? Who drove an 8 legged A series ERF…pay dayz!!

TIPIT:
A bit underpowered by todays standards, but one of my favourite wagons back then.

Does anyone have any of Zinc Alloys wagons, pale blue Bedford TK dropsiders. They were on the Willenhall Rd heading out of Wolverhampton.

hiya drove for waltons for 10 years right up till they finished in 2008 my dad done 30 years in total we both did many a mile in that erf underpowered only had six speed box and the ride was useless bounced all over the place when empty.

Walton transport shortheath willenhall worked there ten years on and off,my dad done 30 we did many a mile in that Chinese six erf very under powered and bounced all over the place when empty.

Big 6’s with the AEC 470/505’s, and not forget the old guy invincible Tex Ball had with the ladder stabliser under the body , And the manky kp dodge 6 wheeler ‘that cab was up and down more times than a brides nightie’. Mick Ross had your Big J ■■■■■■■ 205 after. Bunny had the Guy 30 ton 180, and Len had the atky 30t 180 later a Guy , and J Lycett had the 24 t atky 180 (nice motor that) .He sold the 6 wheelers and had a couple nice 24 ton 150 's slow 38 mph had to swap the 3rd diff to speed em up a bit.Hope to catch you on soon  G

i worked for carl sharman early 90’s,he had an old photo of a boden 8 wheeler tipper on the office wall.i’m sure billy boden was his father in law.

Hi Curnock, Carl dug this out of his attic for me. Its a photo of part of Bill Bodens fleet, some of his Albion Reiver LADs and thats me by my Big J 8

This all takes me down memory lane, John Lycett had the ■■■■■■■ before Mick Ross, my brother in law.
Was ordered by Bills son in law, do not think he ever forgave him, was a thirsty ■■■■■.
Remember being in yard one Saturday morning and swapping Bunny Clews letters around on his new 180 so it read YUG, bless him he left it, must have kept that cab cleaner than any other driver on tippers.

Wagsie.: Squires? I don’t know about the Hargreaves bit did They buy them out? There was the ones I knew, had blue motors, brothers Neil & Cedric, were in a little yard over a humpback bridge at the back of Bloxwich, then moved to new yard next to big foundry they did work for. Then there was another one had green wagons, just off M54, on the old Hilton Main Pit, I think it was, he used to run Bathgate up and back, so I was told. Can you remember a chap, used to run a couple of Roman four wheel flats out of Cheslyn Hay, can’t recall his name though.

Hi mate I worked for squires, doing bathgate there and back hard work. Then we got done by the ministry of transport 320 charges between 5 of us. All the best frank
