Yes, I remember when Ron Aiken started Mainline haulage on Parkfield rd, at that time I worked for Thomas Ingles in Spring rd. Lanesfield.
It was all work from John Thompson’s, Land rover/range rover chassis frames, Rolls Royce, taxi cabs, truck and trailer axles and power station pipework/ manifolds. The big j’s were after I left, when I was there it was mainly Scania’s on heavy stuff, D series, Commers and Leylands on the lighter car factory work.
They ran about 40 lorries at that time, they were a nice family firm to work for but they packed up when Thompsons more or less finished.
My grandmother owned the bungalow at Thompsons main entrance in spring rd., she was very often gardening when I would smoke her out pulling away with an old Commer 2 stroke

No idea Andy, I haven’t been in Wolverhampton for years, Mervyn Appleby operated from Monmore green by the dog track, not seen any of his motors for a good while, got a feeling they packed up quite a few years ago when work was slack.
Whitehaul:
That was not one the Commer that started up runnning backwards at the garage were Mainline was in Parkfield Rd ■■
Don’t know I think they all done that at some point ! first time it happened to me I couldn’t understand why the cab was filling up with smoke (the air filters were under the passenger seat ) when I put it into second gear and it shot backwards I quickly realised and had to stall it.
WT Aldridge/D&S Whitehaul in Wolverhampton had i article about them in the Express & Star in the early 80`s and also the Commercial Motor anyone got a copy a long shot i know
Whitehaul:
it was under the bridge next to machine mart now ,then it was a peugeot garage Mainline was run from the Esso garage later we moved to featherstone
Was surprised to see this still there last weekend! Think it must have been there since late '70’s/'80’s, when it was Jack Allen’s Body factory, which must be long gone. Perhaps no one knows how to get it down! … or is he still going!

Saw this in the new museum just off the Northgate Aldridge. A lovely job done on it & a great display. Anyone have any info on the firm or motor?
