Finding work as a new driver!

Hi guys,

another post from a newbie!

I passed my class 2 about a month ago and just passed my class 1 on monday and looking for work.

If anyone could recommend any companies within 30-40 miles of Hartlepool (north east) who are happy to take on new drivers for permanent contracts it would be much appreciated?

I have applied for most jobs on Indeed and signed up with an agency my driving school passed me on to who’s searching for me too.

At the moment i can’t talk myself in leaving a full time job for agency work :frowning:

Hello there,

I passed my Class 2 and Class 1 within three weeks of eachother over the last month and have had no actual experience of driving as yet. My driving licence came back last Saturday. I didn’t know where to start really but thanks to the wisdom and sound advice of the people on this forum I tried the old fashioned approach. I made an approach to Preston’s of Potto…Walked in on Tuesday this week, CV in hand, explained how keen and willing I am to learn but reluctant to settle for agency work. They took copies of my licences and I am starting with them this Monday. They’re putting me in with one of their drivers for a week to see how I get on, learn to drive a Manual truck etc and if I do alright il be tramping on my own the next week. If not, they said another weeks training is no problem. Whilst training they’re only paying me for the first nine hours of the shift…but who cares!

Print off some CV’s - knock on doors, walk into yards and wear a Hi-Viz. If they try and pie you off with the 2 years experience…just explain everyone needs to start somewhere and you’d be extremely grateful! - Worked for me anyway.

Thanks to all the guys on here who pointed me in this direction and gave me the confidence to do so. I hope to do the same now - Good Luck!

Forgot to say - David Fox in Middlesbrough are taking on drivers without experience.

Not the best payers in the world I hear, but if you’re prepared to muck in and put the hours in…you’re getting the experience we all need right!?

The guys I trained with rang me to ask if I’d be interested in going there. They must be needing people by approaching driving schools for contacts! Give them a ring.

Bryn

Thanks Brynz!

Sounds like the old fashioned way as you have mentioned may be the best approach! Just need to wait for my Licence and CPC card to come back before i can do it that way! Seems like most companies just want experience but as you’ve rightly said… how can you get it if no one is willing to take you on. My instruction actually said to me that companies would be better off taking on newly passed drivers (yes they have no experience) but it means they’re not set in ways and can train them how they need to be trained and in the way they want the job doing…! Definitely taking your advice on board. Will check out David Fox.

Good luck and i hope it works out for you! Keep us updated on how you get on!

They don’t take new passes. I tried with them and even give them a follow up call from applying. They were great with advice etc but stated that I’d need some experience before they would look at me. They were spot on and I understood and couldn’t fault their approach. Just don’t take new drivers I was told
