Trucking Turner:
Thanks, 24 hours on ferry then a 45 then, will be coming off ferry in Poole on Saturday just as our 6th 24 hour session ends, anywhere to park in Poole ?
If you have a full 24 hours on the ferry with bunk available and can have a reduced weekly rest you have a new 144 hours available until the next weekly rest is due
You cannot legally have a 45 regular weekly rest away from base or home
what a load rubbish which book didn’t you read that in

It states in the regs that it cannot be done in a vehicle but I forgot the vehicle bit

I doubt any authority would bother to give an infringement because realistically that rule is silly because 44 hours is legal and 45 is not !!! Or you can take 50 hours off in a truck but it cannot be deemed a regular weekly rest … EH !!
Thats my boys shafted then
One has had one weekend at home since mid jan
The rest average 3-4 weeks away
One lives in truck since his mrs kicked him out last easter
Best get my case packed for the big house lol
Most euro drivers uk or eu would be nicked by now
Could never be enforced wouldnt be feasable
From Poole docks there are numerous buses from the bus station in the town center that run to the leisure complex at Tower Park, plenty of eating places and buffet style joints and a cinema.
Walking distance from the port is a good swimming pool with a ride where you can come down a big plastic tube.Wave machine there too.
Good restaurants on the quay where the bikers meet on a weekends, view the Sunseeker yachts from there.
Being weekended in Poole is not bad.
Indian restaurants a plenty.
If in a walking mood, a bus to Sandbanks then walk to Hengistbury Head, if too tired to walk back, there is a tourist train that runs up and down the beach front from Southbourne pier.
Good Weatherspoons in Bournemouth, Sunday roast with a free drink.
Tgtrucker:
Yes. Stay in the docks. Toilets and showers. The town and quay is a 10 min walk away with plenty to keep you occupied.
You have to get a pass from the freight gatehouse to walk out and back in again.
Make sure you’re wearing a hi viz when you get to the gatehouse or they’ll turn you around to get it before they issue a pass and let you out.
So he’ll have a night out on the razzle in Poole with a hi-vis on then ?
I don’t make the rules!
But they will not issue a freight driver gate pass if you walk to the gatehouse without a hi viz on.
Speak to them nicely and they’ll let you leave it in the gatehouse while you wander off into town.
Booked out at the gatehouse, both of us wearing our Hi - vis without any problems, the very helpful gatehouse staff even wrote out the route to the nearest laundrette, and then phoned a taxi for us, as the wife stuffed her ankle in Berlin the other weekend, ( another 45 in the truck away from base, we’re such bad people ! ) and we decided the walk was a bit too far. While this was going on 3 Portugese drivers also walked up to book out without their Hi - vis on, and also had no problem, so I guess it depends on attitude and who is on shift.
Nice weekend so far.
Poole…Damm fine port…good parking , good people…close to town…many a night out there…live in dorset so never weekended there…
Been on euro work over 24 years and never been a problem with weekly rest in truck…cheers
gettin-on:
Im sure if having a 45 in truck was really illegal
Then the french amd spanish would of nicked loads of us by now for easy money
Another myth by someone reading more into the rules
Not a myth or reading more into the regs because it states in the regs exactly what is legally ok
The problem is Rog there is such a thing as too much information. Yes you have a point but you didn’t have to post it. Why? Because it just causes trouble when drivers read it and start telling there bosses about this unenforced rule and how they wont stay in the lorry for a 45. It didn’t really need saying. Besides it doesn’t explicitly say it, it implies by omission
That could be said for the RTD but it gets mentioned a lot !
Sorry but that’s simply not true, every large and medium sized company I’ve driven for expects drivers to comply with the working time regulations and will issue infringements for none compliance.
There have been many posts on these forums from people who have been given infringements for failing to comply with the RT(WT)R.

I think we were referring to authorities and not companies …
