Favourite county to drive in and why

I know it covers a few counties but love the a1 from Edinburgh to Newcastle.

Aosta valley in Italy. The smell of the smoke from log fires in winter.Salamanca area in the middle if Spain and the wheat fields that are so big they stretch to the end of the horizon.
The Champagne region in France.Trans Montania area of Portugal with the towns of Guimaraes and Braga.Unspoilt by mass tourism.

Plus if you get diesel at the Gulf Garage near Berwick on Tweed, you get a free coffee…

Cornwall in the winter as it has a rugged beauty and that time of year the roads are peaceful.

You can’t beat Northumberland for scenery, coastline, castles and of course fish and chips.

Slight bias because it’s my area but the Yorkshire Wolds on a summer day (stop laughing at the back), especially the area between Pocklington and Driffield, is wonderful. Used to drive it regularly on the buses, now do it on occasion in my wagon.

The route from Southampton to Poole through the New Foriest.

My favourite too. I used to do the Orkneys until a couple of years ago when it suddenly stopped going. Whenever I ask about it nobody seems to know but I miss doing it a lot.

Derbyshire as its got the peak district and also through Matlock Bath.

Anywhere down south, Derbyshire & Monmouthshire…

You wouldn’t say that Dave if you had to nip to the motor factors on a sunny weekend !

My favourite drive is Aosta through to chamonix early afternoon summer or winter,or sutherland.

Probably not Dan, only done the trip through there about six times.

No particular favourite but I do prefer going north from here in Leeds rather than south.

Essex.

And from Inverness A9 - A835 - A832 - A890 - A896 to Lochcarron but only in the car - there’s a low bridge before Lochcarron anyway

Kent, because it’s the last county before you get to proper roads and drivers.

The a458 from Shrewsbury to Kiddeminster through bridgnorth is a lovely road to drive if you’re empty, (don’t do it loaded as there is a beast of a hill) if you want to avoid the motorway slog.

Will do it in the car as loads of nice pubs along the route for a spot of lunch. Be a good bikers road as well for a cheeky blast.
