If you really are trying to attract drivers with real jobs try telling us a little about the job like what type of work it is, not just about what paper work is to be done or what walk around checks are required as that part of the job goes without saying, the style of work is what we want to know (if its a real placement you will know this)
Asking an agency a question like that what have you had on your cornflakes this morning.

That would actually require then to be offering real jobs as opposed to them just playing the numbers game with attracting people you noy had any luck yet chester

i suppose it all depends on what you think is acceptable ill put me tin hat on now but I refuse to sell my self short and work for peanuts imm not a monkey
in some agencys defense its the thick drivers who get attracted by ‘rates’ and a young girl in the office who has attended a course showing her different pictures of trucks, that make the adverts all about 10x class 1 drivers paying £50 per hour.
if i put too much info on an advert people would just suss the company out and pick up the phone direct, therefore you look after yourself and i will look after me.
i still to this day do not get why drivers go to ‘bobs recruitment’ your 1 man band local 1 contract man, when there are plenty of national one out their who are tighter run and more likely to do things correct.
I remember years ago when you used an agency to get a little bit of weekend work to top your money up ,but now you look on any job work site and its nothing but agency’s advertising .Personally I have a deep mistrust of anything that agency’s promise i would need to be very desperate before even thinking about using one
that because drivers have been replaced by steering wheel attendants in the main and this coupled with the cost of recruitment means agencys providing a ‘try before you buy’ situation have increased.
its not the agencys fault its the amount of drivers who cant drive for toffee that have assisted the shift to temporary work.

But its the agencys fault for sending people to jobs with out the experience of the equipment the client uses. The steering wheel bit is only half the job these days. In Kent there are two firms looking for experienced walking floor drivers (both advertising directly) but the agencys they use have no mention of walking floors in there ads
Interesting comments war ! i assume your involved in an agency ?

is she pretty?
to be honest some companies get quite uppety about what we can put on an advert but yes i would agree that some from of walking floor or general idea of the work is useful.
maybe its because it hard to fill they are trying to just get someone in and hope the site will train them? either way not the best imo.

hi BJD yes i am but am also a driver, i often do the assessments etc at at firm before i send anyone in so i can give a full picture to my guys of whats expected. however i am lucky enough to work for a company who will allow this (i have also worked for some who wouldnt!).
but in recruitment they do tend to employ a lot of people who would know a class 1 tipper from a class 2 fridge ( they are more easier on the eye than me i must admit )! but having worked as a driver on agency i try ( i dont always get it right) to give as much info/advice as i can to anyone who requests it.
I think your comments say it all war ! you consider the the industry you serve to be full of incompetent drivers perish the thought that its anything to do with your interview and selection process ? and sending drivers who are not suitable to assignments your comments show a lack of respect towards the people you place in work is it any wonder we have a low opinion of agency’s

lack of respect? i have doen the job so know how it should be done?
i have several newbies who i have placed into long term work who are going well and as said i will advise and assist them if they need it, my point is you get a whole heap of ■■■■ drivers ( both agency and full time guys ) just search the forum ( bridge strikes, going down closed roads, getting stuck in villages etc. etc. ), if you want to be considered a professional then this needs sorting out! the dcpc has done nothing for the industry.
but i have some great guys who do a great job and i try to be as fair as i can with them ( a few are on here and one has just recently passed his class 1 and is out working now ).
the onyl people i have a lack of respect for are moaning ■■■■ who spout the same old agencys are the devil ■■■■ on here whilst doing nothing about it, or are not good enough to get a full time job.
