Fans of Fodens

Hi Folks,
Want to put a picture on of my brothers Foden Alpha 8x4 insulated tipper, how do you put the photo on from my own album ? Thanks

Hello chaps,
Here’s a photo or two. of my brothers Foden still going strong, she’s got the 400 cat in and she’s just recently had a refurb and she’s looking real nice, she still works 24 hours a day 7 days a week when business demands have to be met.

I know one of them is a Scammell but sitting next to her is a Foden my Dad came off the Scammell and was given the Foden
He much preferred the Foden even though they were both powered by the 150 Gardner
The photo was taken at the massive Midland Storage depot in West Hallam Derbys in the early 60s

Bents Park Tyne Tees Rally 2014, Regards Larry.

I remember going down to Bewdley in 1976 To have a look at a Foden S21 Two Stroke 8 wheeler tipper, It was for sale the owner driver that had it said he couldn’t get away with its 12 speed Foden Box, Anyway I road tested it and it seemed to be good but it had about a tonne of tar stuck behind the headboard which appeared to have been there for some time, He only wanted £900.00 for it & it could carry 16.200., which was a good payload but I decided not to buy it, The next day he rang me & said I could have it for £750.00, I was tempted but gave It a miss It was a tidy enough motor F Reg. But sadley to say this lad new nothing about any kind of wagon, And was not mechanicaly minded, Regards Larry.

A few I photo’d when still running, may have seen before on Yorkshire companies site

Barry/Gloves

That bulk body on Gilbert Chapples first 8 wheeler looks quite a modern design for the late 70s it wouldnt look out of place today .

Some nice Fodens here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N03YjXqfWkw

A bit of everything British in this one, but a lovely old Foden stands out…
Jerry

I’d sooner have the B series .

Few Foden’s around Bedfordshire probably in the 80s

Can’t remember where or when I saw this,

That would make sense, I used to deliver to a little engineering firm in Holmfirth and go that way to Oldham, not the best of roads with a wag and drag especially through Greenfield where it met the Oldham rd.

Hi Guys, just to let you know in next months Heritage Commercials a piece about Salkeld Bros from Durham, plenty of Fodens to drool over.

Hiya,
Most likely had a lift in every one of these, ( a lift to work ) they had to pass my house
on the way to my yard and they were all good lads and would give me a lift, those two
strokes sounded awesome.
thanks harry, long retired.

Foden FG6/24 Rigid Eight-Wheeler Lorry,SLP 101.

Foden FG6/24,Duramin-cabbed,Flat-bodied,8x2 or 8x4 Lorry,SLP 101,registered on Monday,6th February,1956,in London.
New to Portland Blue Circle Cement, and then was operated as a Luton Van-bodied Fairground Lorry by Crow’s of Northallerton.
John Ward of West Yorkshire restored and preserved this Foden in the early 1990s,and rallied it for a few years.
Then one sunny Sunday in mid July 1997? - I forget what year it was - some of my friends were en route to the great Tram Sunday
Vintage Vehicle Rally at Fleetwood, near Blackpool, and we stopped at the Rivington M61 Northbound Services for refreshments.
While we were standing in the motor vehicle park having refreshments, along came this Foden lorry,SLP 101 on the northbound
side of the M61 Motorway. We wondered where it was going, and later found out that when we saw it,the Foden was en route to
to it’s new owner in Ireland! …and it’s still in Ireland as far as I am aware - in the vicinity of Waringstown,Craigavon,County Down
,Northern Ireland. The Foden is still in the John Ward dark blue, red chassis relief, livery.

Brand new and ready for work

Regards. John
