Fans of Fodens

It was 1967and I worked for Jones Transport Sevices Widnes only in my 20s the boss sent me op to Scotland on a Sunday to day shunt the night trunk motors AT the Riggend Cafe Airdrie and I went with a 2stroke Mickey Mouse it was love at first hear the sound of it was amazing loved them ever since I was that pathetic I would go through a town in lower gear than was needed the noise caused a lot of heads to turn look folks it’s me with my Foden I know I know sad I also drove some 2stroke commers and loved them to but I never forgot my first drive of a 2stroke I feel sorry for today’s drivers who will never drive one as our American cousins would say AWSOME

It has a Carnarvon, WA number plate so I think it is the one that Gascoyne Trading of Carnarvon got from the Diesel Motors, the WA Foden dealers in Perth in 1968 or 1969. It was painted yellow then, but not the shade of yellow it has in the photo. I never drove it but it was regularly on the Carnarvon freezer run with two regular drivers. I can’t even remember what engine it had in it but it was always known as the ‘Yellow Submarine’.

Sorry I don’t, But I can tell you that it was originaly made for abroad It was an Export model, It had heavey duty front axles in, plus the usual Foden diffs & 12 speed box along with a Gardner engine, The problem was at 24 Tonne Gross it could only carry 15 Tonne as it was heavey UL. my cousin that owned it decided to fit a 220 ■■■■■■■ into it, But alas that reduced the payload to below the 15 Tonne, He eventually sold it & it ended it days working internally at Teeside in the steel works operated by a firm called Russell from that area, Regards Larry.

One from “Harry” s part of the country. This would just suit him ,- trips to Rallies with the caravan` in tow .
Might need a “Stannah Fork Lift” :unamused: :bulb: to help him into the cab though .

Photographed at the recent Hethersgill Vintage Rally , Carlisle.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

hiya,
The most I’ve driven a Foden is about 200 yards just never worked for anybody
who ran them and I drove for a lot of people, so tempting as your offer of the
chance to drive this beauty round the shows is, I hope you’re not too upset if I
pass. but you’re correct about the Stannah stair lift being required to get me in
the cab and a parachute to get me back to terra firma might be helpful too.
thanks harry, long retired.
