Lawrence Dunbar:
Well old Brian Liked the Sed/Aki setup, which was D/D, with cross on diff locks which I don’t think Foden had such a configuration at that time, This motor was for a special job at that time as far as I know, Regards Larry.

This kind of mod’ is probably much harder to do, or impossible ( I’m not a mechanic) with modern wagons & all there technology & computerised this/that & the other! And this type of knowledge/experience to be able to do a conversion like that, blokes like that are sadly a dying breed! Regards Chris

Very interesting this talk of grafting Foden’s and Sed/Atki’s together, I did it the other way round too Brain, using the Sed/Atki 400 front half, and the Back half of a Foden S39 mixer together, and it did have cross and 3rd diff locks as well.
I also used the boom off a Ruston Bucyrus hydraulic shovel for a wrecker jib as well. Here’s a link to it, the finished article is a few clicks sidewards as well.

I did meet Brians son Rody a few years ago when I sold him a Coles crane, nice bloke, but you did need an interpretor.

Hiya that Foden dose about 80 mph i tried following it one day, when i said to the owner he said it shows 60 on clock.
it belongs to mal sample at sommerford. before that it was sommerford motors which was chatman and balls.
chatman and balls run tippers out of the salt mine at winsford so it could well have been new to them.
Thats malc at the wheel he always wares blue overhauls. malc has about 20 fodens in preservation.

The Foden was ex Tilcon, Ballidon, John. Its sister tanker was TRA 243K driven by Harry Glover. We also had TRB 130K (Dennis Wibberley, and later Colin Critchlow) and TRB 131 K (Sam Hambleton, and later Bill Clowes who has the truck website, and then Derek Booth) which were both S50 cabbed tippers. TRB 132K was driven by the Late Ian Slater from Parwich, as I said it was the first Foden that I drove laden (to Raynesway Test Station) and I bedded the gearbox in nicely!!
