Failed eye test can i still drive though?

Hi all and thanks in advance for any advice given.
So here we go, my medical runs out in may this year so thought i would get in to the opticians as early as poss so yesterday i went and after he tested me i have failed and he said i had not met the standards set to drive a hgv. So he said i need glasses to drive a hgv which are now ordered. my question is can i still legally drive now as my medical is not due until the end of may?

I will check it later but I think it’s a £1000 fine to not declare a medical condition that affects the ability to drive.

I would say it is illegal to drive if you have been told the eye sight is not up to standard to drive unless you are called Dominic Cummings.

The issue is having an accident if driving without glasses.

I’d think it would be ok to drive, provided you are properly trained to use a white cane. :wink:

Sounds reasonable.
People should not be barred from the workplace because of physical or other differences.

The greater public in many countries seem to concur. They have even voted for a mentally challenged person to be their president.

not just once but twice the first one didnt know he was black. and the other one kept having to have a nap

Book a couple of weeks holiday until the new glasses arrive, or ring in sick. Sorted.
You certainly don’t want ‘an incident’ , better to just sit tight and wait.

has the opthalmist filled in the form and has it been sent off? the issue is if he has you wont be able to drive until you pass the medical regardless of now haveing glasses

no he wont fill it in till i get my glasses so looks like 2 weeks in the sun for me :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Get a cheap Ryan Air or Easy jet paraffin parrot flight to Benidorm or Malaga.

Just booked an eye appointment for when I’m off as need some new glasses and with the eye problems my mum had I like doing it every year
Plus now driving an XG with cams so varifocals can cause problems at times

We have the numberplate test every 6 months at work. Had mine on Wednesday, all good.
