After a few days of excellent training and completely smashing the manoeuvres out of the park, it all went belly up on test day and I completely cocked up my reverse and failed without even leaving the test centre.
Any advice to calm me down on retest day( if that ever comes soon!!)
Rog, Peter already said on an earlier post bout failed tests and he quotes,
One of the Covid measures adopted by DVSA is to end the test as soon as a serious fault happens. With the reversing normally being done at the start of the test, the road drive often wont take place. If the fault occurs on the road, the shortest route is taken back to the test centre HTH.
If it’s any consolation, exactly the same happened to me. My stupidity was not taking a shunt and not getting out to look. This is basic but tests can do funny things to you! I’m doing a retest tomorrow and this time I will just take my time and stop for a breath if I have to. Will take both shunts if needed and will get out and look also. It was literally the only time I had ever failed my reverse.

Well good luck buddy, I’ll have everything crossed for you… let us know how you get on.
Just out of interest, how long did you wait for a retest??
I got a retest within 2 weeks - the company I use book tests in Ipswich, Chelmsford and Thurrock so managed to get a quick one - and back at Thurrock where I fluffed so badly. Last of the Saturday tests as apparently they are just getting back to full speed on testing. May all change again soon though sadly. Good luck yourself mate. You know you can do it, just relax and take your time that’s what I’m going to do. I’d be lest gutted at failing on the road but failing in the yard is not good for the soul!

How daft
Are they saying that the virus will not affect anyone unless they make a serious fault
More like, “they’ve failed, back to centre asap 'cos I want me next cuppa”
Same as when a test gets cancelled “because of the weather” when there is nothing at all wrong (personal experience, yes it still bugs me a bit )
Chin up mate.
Passing or failing is often just a matter of luck.
I had a belting drive on my test right up to the point of turning right into the yard, ending the test.
The unit I was in had an automatic gearbox…but with a clutch for first gear.
I screwed it up and stalled the vehicle.
It also took what seemed age to get it started…
The instructor told me at the end that had oncoming traffic come around the corner I’d have failed.
Phil , you didn’t fail, it was deferred success, as said Kalms work wonders to take the edge off the nerves, a natural herbal remedy, another tip is to reduce caffeine and alcohol and turn off devises and the tv a few hours before bedtime.
A hot Bath with Radox mineral salts is good too.

Ha, I love that theory.
I will definitely try Kalms next time… somebody has also recommended‘Rescue Remedy’
The night before my test , I find it easy to relax with a visit to a lady of the night for a relaxing back massage!!
It’s a shame I didn’t turn off the tracking in the phone when the Mrs checked it !

Two paracetamol will work just as well, it’s been known for some time that not only do they dull physical pain but also emotional pain like anxiety too.
