I remember The Beast, I believe it belonged to someone from the Oxford area ,it had 666 in the number plate, I think the next Beast was a F16.
postman paul:
The vehicle details for EAA 769W are:Date of Liability 01 02 1994
Date of First Registration 08 08 1980
This is actually a very early ‘W’ reg, had it been registered 9 days earlier it would have been a ‘V’ reg.
Ross.
EAA 770W was registered on the same day as 769W but Rycroft did not put his on the road immediately. My Boss at the time (Bob Edwards) saw the truck at the Frankfurt Show in 1979 and ordered one with Prince’s Commercials Southampton the following day. There may have been V reg Globetrotters but they would have been European imports AFTER 1980 OR were cab conversions by the like of KELTRUCK. See more of the model and trailer on Old Southampton Hauliers thread. My truck came without the kitchen pack and the swivvelling seat as there were none available at the time of production. I was told the parrafin cooker was dangerous and the swivvelling seat didnt…swivvel that is, the engine hump got in the way…so we got a £900 discount!
Has anyone still got an early Globetrotter?
Regards,
Mark.

…F12 pre Globetrotter status
PaRtrick’s (not Patrick’s) also bought one of the first Globetrotter’s. Mark Partrick saw it at a show and paid cash there and then (alledgedly). That’s why it came in the Volvo “special” livery. No kitchen pack in this one though. Mark wanted 2 of them, but there was a big demand so he had to settle for a flat roof F12 instead.

And here’s the Yeardley one, in a new life elsewhere…

And my shot of EAA somewhere in France…
I am trying to find a piece of history from Crossroads Commercials in Hull, so far the website has given me the info that Valletta Street opened in 1972 and an old family friend, Ray Allison from Melton who previously ran his own vehicles and an auto-electrical business became an Electrician with Crossroads. Through him and the sales manager we used to get an invite whenever they opened a box, or a new model was launched and I can remember the line up of new Globetrotters, most of them for Brian Yeardley who was still based in Hull.
The local haulers were forever being whisked off on a Jolly to Gothenburg to drive these new wonder trucks and Volvo had a good customer base around the area.
I have emailed Crossroads to see if there are any photographs of the Hull operation or of the launch of various models through the years, the place still stands and has hardly altered from those days.
There is still a lovely old F12 Globetrotter running on Middlegate which is ex Brian Yeardley

Yes, that is the one. I have a photo on order from Arthurs mate who keeps me right
This is a 1979 Globetrotter er,“borrowed” from the Volvo site
A surprise photo of me driving “The Joker” truckerash. It is me because there is a Yaesu 707 ham radio perched atop the dash centre and that was only in there when I drove it.
The “caissemobile” container on top of a Louis Bull Transport, Southampton flat trailer. Sonya and I would spend 2 to 3 weeks tipping and loading these containers and “kangaroo” trailers sent by Louis Bull to Novara.

I have had several replies to this request from Crossroads Commercials managers & staff old and new, some great information and memories. I am hoping to be able to share some of this in the near future. I dont want to bite the hand that feeds me though.
Looking forward to it mate
I used to go into crossroads in the early 80s with my grandad, i used to be over the moon if i saw one of yeardleys in there
