The roundabout North of it is a good one as well, there is a truckstop and quarry off it so plenty of subjects. The one shown can be bad for sunshine but by moving around I manage.

Hello EDDIE STOBART FAN,
No, Browns weren’t a Stobart Subbie. That lorry as only at Stobart HQ Depot because in was near christmas, and Browns used to deliver for Stobarts Nestle bound tins, which are going to be used for the Nestle Sweets division. This work is now done by ATL (Derby), who took over Browns Cardewless Yard.
Browns always had there own contracts and never did any subbing work.

P.S Your right though, it is a good photo.
Anybod know of a kenny burns who drove to browns. He was there from about 1973, he left a firm called watts of carlisle to go there.
He started there with an A line ERF 180 gardiner and later in the eightys he came over to Nestles of Omagh a few times in a 113 and the last I heard he was driving a Daf 85 for them around 2003.

Hello rathlin
I can’t personally help you but maybe georgeking might be able to. If Mr Burns was driving a DAF 85 for Browns, he would proberly be employed by the company until 2008, when they sold off all the DAF’s they ran, unless he was kept on.
I hope someone can help you with this question

Thanks for the reply ■■■■■■■■ gill I am sure Kenny will probably be retired now as he is a couple of years older than me. I haven’t heard from him since I had an unloading accident and had to quit driving trucks, and no longer cross over to England. I just thought when I saw this thread on Browns he might possibly be on here.

I knew Kenny Burns very well he was originally from Maryport he had a brother called Keith (?) who was also a lorry driver. Kenny married someone from Waverton and lived in Waverton. I knew Kenny around 1983-84 when he drove a Scania 111,he’ll be aged around 70 now.
Does anyone know what the relation between Fred Brown and Fred Story is?

Hello georgeking
I don’t think there is any relation between Fred Brown & Fred Story. Only thing I can think of is that they bought the plant hire arm of Browns maybe?

Yes your right George King Keith is a twin brother to Ken, and the last time I saw him he was in dover with a trailer of Curries of Dumfries but the truck belonged to somebody from Carlisle, sometime in the late ninetys. They would be cousins of mine but the only time I ever saw them was when I met them on the road and Ken called to my fathers in Antrim when he came over to Nestles of Omagh in the early eightys I have no idea where kieth lives. Used to run into Ken quite often in Lymm or the BP in wolverhampton.

I have a daily worksheet for Browns daily work will post it next few days. I used to work for them from 1987 to 1988 in the transport office. Staff then were Harold - plant hire manager and David was under him, Bim the transport manager actual name was William Errington, Fred Brown - he was a very generous man. I have tried to get in touch with the old staff without success
Cheers,
