Extending driving hours?

Somebody in our office today said that you can only go into your 10 hours 3 times a fortnight, i obv know you can do it twice a week, and as far as im aware can do it twice a week everyweek if you wanted? Anybody please care to clarify this thanks

In my extremely limited experience, you can go to 10hours twice a week, every week, as long as your accumulated hours for a fortnight don’t exceed 90hours.

But I am a relative novice and am happy to be corrected!

Driving hours
The main EU rules on driving hours are that you must not drive more than:

9 hours in a day - this can be extended to 10 hours twice a week
56 hours in a week
90 hours in any 2 consecutive weeks

I wonder if they got confused with the three reduced daily rests between weekly rests rule ?

Thanks for getting back to me, i thought you could do it every week if you wanted but as sure as i was when somebody tells you different it puts a niggle in back of your mind, il be sure to inform them i was right on my return :grimacing: and yes rog i think somebody is confused thanks again

One of our drivers checked with the dvsa helpline about reduced daily rests, and was told you can only reduce three times between full weekly rests, not reduced weeklies, so if you do a 24 one weekend, you can only do 3 in a fortnight. I was always sure that 3 between any weeklies was the case, but it sets you wondering if you’ve got it wrong all along!

Why don’t you just go along with what they say, instead of making more work for yourself.

Going along with what they say might mean not getting back one day and having an extra, unnecessary night out.

They gave out completely wrong information there. Here’s what it says in the regulations.

EU561/2006 Article 8(4)

A driver may have at most three reduced daily rest periods between any two weekly rest periods.

No grey area, very clear, it’s between any two weekly rest periods not just regular ones.

That’s what I told him, it was afterward that the doubt set in in my mind! Bit like when I spell a word, and the more I think about, the more wrong it looks. Must stop thinking…

Did you hear this phone call or did this driver just tell you about it ?

You’d be amazed how many people have spoken to VOSA about stuff.

I got RDC’d last week. Apparently some driver he knew was fined by VOSA for not showing 15 minutes of checks when getting in a vehicle. They throw in VOSA phone calls to make their story seen more legit when in reality it’s all MMTM (my mate told me).

To be fair, no, he told me about it. However, he is the quiet, non-bs type of driver, so I tend to believe him. He asked me how I understood it, as he didn’t think it was correct, and thought as I’d got my ocpc I must know the rules (!!!). No harm done, and he did say he thought he must have misunderstood what she had told him.

BTW, you may have been RDC’d, but I met the actual driver who got chalked at an RDC once! And I missed the herald with my dad by just 3 weeks
