Extended trailer / trombone

Just out of interest and would like to see ur views on this I have been doing trombone trailers off and on over the last year maybe 1 or two trips a week, just wondered if you have done it before weather you have beacons / flashing yellow lights on the trailer and unit when extended? I’m asking as a 7 1/2 tonner folowed me all the way up the A51 today and overtook me on the A55 to hurl abuse at me telling me I was doing something wrong! The fact I was doing 40mph must ha e wound him up aswell but your thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

Maybe he thought you should have pulled into a layby to let him past on the A51 as it is far more important that he gets to his destination than you get to yours

done them many times. i usually put a beacon on the back, and put my cab beacons on when i’m off the motorway.
i don’t bother if it’s only stretched out by 5’ or so though.

Dunno about anyone else but I always look forward to a ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■.

what length

55 / 65 ft flatbed! Depends on what we carry really!

I had the standard triangular marker board with two small red lamps mounted on the top corners. When extended more than 6o feet I would usually employ an amber beacon as well, although it wasn’t a legal requirement.

the only time i put an orange beacon on the back is if theres a lot of overhang {more than 5ft} regardless of what the trailers opened to, upto 5ft a red light on the markerboard is more than ample, i cant stand it when lazy sods just whack a flashy light on the back cos they cant be arsed to put on {or dont have} a markerboard

nothing worse than following someone at 56mph for mile after mile with an orange light flashing in front of you
