Wouldn’t bother! They don’t recognise UK licenses!
Speaking from experience. Cost me $2000 AUD to convert mine!

Of course they do but you will still have to do the knowledge and the test. I went to Austrailia in 1999 and my UK licence was PCV which was equivelent to Medium Ridgid so I could go right for my Heavy Combination. One week of lessons back then in Wollongong was $800. If you want to know the road rule and find out just how big the trucks are you can download it all off the RTA website.
This is an area me and the long haired General have discussed (moving to OZ)
If there is anyone who knows any info on how/if its possible to emmigrate to OZ as a heavy goods driver/manager or if its just a pipe dream then I’d love to hear your advice

Pipe dream I’m afraid!
Why don’t you contact a migration agent for a free consultation?
Can recommend Julia Skoglund at www.migrateaustralia.com.au
Don’t hold you’re breath though. For a start they don’t recognise the UK licenses!
I’m talking from experience, lived out there for 3 years and have citizenship.

I think your information is wrong, I have just got back from the RTA office in NSW and they have exchanged my licence’s like for like only thing I cannot drive is a Multi Combination I have to take a test for this. I do not know when you got your licence exchanged over here but I got mine done today.
Well bugger me didn’t I tell you that. If you have the pommy equivelent to Heavy Combination they will recognise that but you will still have to do the the knowlege and test. Its not like you have to start with Light Rigid and work your way up. In the UK they do not recogise your Aussie license at all apart from car so you start from the very bottom. Just think after you pass your test in 12 months time you could get your Multi Combination. The test is easy as, I did mine in Griffith you just drive around town they show you what roads you drive on and what you should not and reverse in a straight line. As long as you don’t send you back trailer on the pavement its a pass.

Knowledge test is $39 dollars for each attempt just turn up on day and take test until you pass.
Training can be done by test or by assessor, but they want you to part with $1100 to $1600 for 8 hours when i got quotes it was $1600 upwards mate who is aussie quoted $800 … trying to take me for a [zb].
but the lass all of 19 gave me the HC, sure she made an error but not going to complain also gave back my UK licence with no hole punched in it!
It depends purely on the State whether or not they accept ur UK licence. I.e. in Queensland you are allowed to use UK licence for equivalent classes (Heavy Combination) if you’re on temporary visa, like on Working Holiday Visa. As far as I remember, in NT you can only get Heavy Rigid and you need to sit the tests, like in QLD as well but you get one class higher.
