European Tolls for 2013

As a New Year dawns so our European Neighbours have introduced or changed their Road Tolls.

France is introducing a new Toll system on the Route National network from June 2013 in the Alsace Region followed by a National rollout from September. It is based on a GPS system and not the current Pass and Go, so a new powered box has to be fitted with a penalty of €750 if not when stopped.

On 1 January, the tolls for the use of toll motorways and expressways in Austria for vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes gross weight will be increased by an average of 3 percent. Also increase to 01/01/2013 in France. Tolls for the passage of the Mont Blanc Tunnel and the Fréjus tunnel by an average of 5 percent
In France, from the 20th July raised taxe poids lourds for trucks over 3.5 tonnes gross weight on all national roads, some roads and some state (previously toll-free) highways. The Eco-tax will be introduced in addition to the existing toll TIS PL. In June 2013, the new fee in Alsace on vehicles tested over 12 tonnes gross weight. The toll will be on average 0.12 cents per km.
Hungary also leads to the 1st July for trucks over 3.5 tonnes gross weight, a new electronic toll collection system, which will replace the current vignette control. The level of charges is about 30 cents per km on motorways and at 18.7 cents per km on toll roads.

Thanks for the info, still trying to work out exactly what it means.

Do we now have the Tolls for the existing Autoroutes and then this toll all other major roads RN’s?
The toll box must have a permanent power supply.
So does it need installing like the German Box or can it be done by anybody reasonably competent?
Like to get more information about the Hungarian tolls, got a trip there this year.

Are 3.5t vans pulling a trailers covered by this?

Found the answer, can be plugged in the cigarette lighter.

What with the great European integration can they not agree on one powered GPS box that can be used in every eu country? Be no room for the driver in the cab soon with all the different boxes.

Lets hope they do a better job of it than Slovakia.

Never been there what went wrong with it?

Also didn’t the German Maut system get delayed or changed because of problems with it?

For a start, it’s a time-consuming chore to obtain one. It involves signing several documents relating to the vehicle, the method of payment, the ownership of the device, etc.
I suppose if you were a regular visitor (more than once a month), after the initial purchase it would only entail topping-up as required.
However, if like me, you might only go there 2 - 3 times a year, the procedure has to be undertaken each time.
Worse still is trying to return the box:
Every time i’ve tried to return the box to a provider, they’ve either been closed for lunch, experiencing computer problems, or there’s been such a queue that i’ve been unable to park.
If there’s more than 50Euro credit left on, then the refund has to be payed to the truck operator, so requires their banking
details.
It just seems overly complicated.
It’s also a rather large device that has to be plugged into a cigarette lighter socket.

I also found out tonight when I got back from Madrid that you can no longer use Fuel Cards to pay the tolls with anymore. It has to be a Pass and Go tag from now on or cash. I was travelling with a tag anyway, so it was not an issue for me.

In France? I’ve just been down to Montpellier and back in past week and used DKV all the way

The Eco Tax does not come into force until July 2013 and applies to National and Departmental roads for vehicles over 3.5 tonne. It is based on distance with the cost being set at €0.12 per kilometre.

I suggested this would happen when the Germans dropped the Vignette for the Maut. It has forced many more transit vehicles onto the busy & free RN routes. All will happen in France is that they will probably have a new box on the CMR which requests mileage and they will charge that directly to the customer.

It does mention a direct charge to users on these links.

eurotoll.co.uk/site/-France-HGV-Ecotax-

Both links suggest it will be lightly based on the Swiss system of km but by using GPS to monitor it like the MAUT

This applies to SPAIN and not France.
The French Pass and Go tags work on the Spanish system but the ‘bleep’ is different.
I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear.
