When i applied for Pulleyn i paid the police £ 10.
For that you get a computer print out with all your past history.
And did you get the job Toby?
~ Craig
Dont mind being away 2-3 weeks have done Russia a few times, think it is a single mans job and no cooking whats that about thought they might at least put a microwave and a fridge in the cab for that amount of time away

I would imagine that, given the sensitivity and high value of some of the loads that Pullyens allegedly haul, that it is probably a condition of their insurance company policy. Surely they would have a microwave fitted in the cab at least! I can understand them being wary about having naked flame in the cab, there have been a few accidents, but even so they are few and far between!
6-8 weeks away without any personal catering facilities, given some of the countries where they can end up going to, seems well wrong.
They had a fire in the cab.Hence the cooking ban. Then there is a risk of leakage in the night with the driver knocked out with a high value load in the middle of nowhere or the Ural mountain ranges in Siberia.
Anyone applying for European work and assume you will be home every Friday\Saturday you are in for a surprise. The employers do not care if you have booked theatre/cinema/restaurant\birthday or anniversary nights out with the wife/girlfriend/Fred who lives down the road.
Road haulage does not revolve around your private life.
If being stuck in a tin box for a weekend then do not apply.
Some days you will be doing over 500 miles or more.

I don’t know where you get that from toby, I go out every sun and get back every friday and know a lot off drivers that are the same.
The majority of time I went out on a Sunday either from Hull (nice boat that was ) or Felixstowe and back Friday , sometimes out for 2 weeks but then the boss give me fair warning so didn’t mind
Just read on Facebook that smiths(I presume it’s scotter)from Scunthorpe are after a driver to start Monday as another guy is leaving Friday why not give them a ring.
It’s euro and uk work on the flats.

Did you work there Toby? And if so what’s the money like? Cheers
It seems that there are 3 types of CRB checks, and 3 different fees as well,
Basic, Standard, Enhanced basic is £25.00 as is for pre employment unless you wanna be a copper or teacher, care worker , (working with kids or the vunerable) The place to get your basic check (direct source) is herehttp://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/what-is-disclosure/, there are private companies who charge a lot more for the same certificate
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is a Central Body which exists to allow employers (including educational establishments) who are registered with them to obtain checks on employees/students. If the employer is not registered then you can apply to Disclosure Scotland for a Basic Disclosure, see below for more information.
There are two types of checks that the CRB can currently do.
Standard disclosure, mainly available to those working with children and vulnerable adults shows current and spent convictions, cautions, warnings and reprimands held on Police National Computer (PNC). It costs £31 for standard disclosure.
Enhanced disclosure, is for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults. It is the highest level of check for those responsible, caring for ,training or supervising children or vulnerable adults. It contains the same information as a standard disclosure check but also includes relevant and proportionate information held by local police forces. It costs £36 for enhanced disclosure. See the website in related information for more details.
The CRB now offer a service where you can check the progress of the checks online.
If you want the check for pre-employment vetting purposes and you are not required to declare spent convictions then you can apply for basic disclosure through Disclosure Scotland. Although based in Scotland it is the sister organisation to the Criminal Records Bureau and does criminal records checks for individuals from England and Wales as well as Scotland. The Basic Disclosure check provides individuals with a list of only current convictions that they should declare if the employer has no exemption to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, see website in related information.
If you want a check for emigration or visa purposes then please see Q542.
Done a bit of digging as a 6 week period was mentioned and local police stn, wasnt a SAR( subject access request ) which costs £10 using the DPA was it?

The pay is not the best but you get a nice Mercedes Benz and top trailer. The lad i spoke to on the ferry when at Madrid you get sent anywhere in Europe or outside Europe.
Six to eight weeks away.
No cooking allowed in the cab or cookers.
On your time off you may have to polish the aluminium wheel covers before tou go home for a weekly rest.
Greece.Turkey or any place.
Trailers have alarms and locks on the fridges. The drivers stay there for 30 years or more.
Six to eight weeks away at a time and you can’t cook in the cab■■?!!!
As a non-tramper, can I ask what the ■■■■ they expect the driver to do at meal times? Do they pay for meals at Michelin starred restaurants for you then?
FREDERICK:
Yes I saw your post and sent my CV they replied two days later saying they are interested but need a CRB and other things which may take 40 days or 6 weeks as I said the time you do all that it will be after Xmas
Have you set the ball rolling for the CRB? If you are clear, then you should have it in 2 weeks, if they have to dig deeper then upto 6 weeks.
I think getting a CRB via Scotland is quicker but not 100%
Lasts 12 mths when done.
Pulleyns are a good company to work for ( a friend of my brothers did for a good few years for them ) but you are away a lot( hence he gave it up).
LHDs are not a problem ; as an experienced Euro Driver you should have this experience, but its no great shakes. I ran a mix and my drivers had no issue, they were given the keys and just got on with it. A decent jockey can drive anything or should be able to!
You should also renew your ADR.
More strings to your bow the more likely you are to get work.
At the moment you are limiting your chances.
Best of luck to you!
Yeah thanks for that ,I do not have a problem doing LHD but most firms i.e. Yeardley are asking for 5 yrs experience as regards ADR caught in the cross hairs there with the money situation tighten the old belt 5 notches
