Euro driving an Artic after a life of 7.5, 17.5t

Hi guys and guyesses,

Is there much of a difference between 17.5t driving in EU and artic driving?

I am doing HGV 1 training now.

I want to go for curtainsiders. No white goods unless on a pallet. No removals. Are there any cushy warehouse to far off warehouse jobs going - as as I get older I am getting more lazier and just want to drive and eat and have a good time - like changing a super single, in EU at 02:00 in the rain off the axle nearest the traffic between Raggio Calabria and Naples - an easy life:)

Any ex-EUROPEAN drivers on here.

Do most people ask for running money? So as we can eat?

Any tips from the big boys and girls from the world of HGV 1 would be much appreciated.

I’d suggest you see if you can find an eastern European version of TruckNet and ask on there.

There’s also a Euro driving forum on this site.

If you’ve just done your Class 1 then you’re unlikely to get any domestic, let alone European, driving work any time soon unless your current employer will let you move up - there’s much less of it as foreign drivers take British freight as return loads, and that means they deal with the Calais stowaway problem rather than us.

Hi.
Yes, artics bend just behind the cab, wagon and drags bend in the middle btw. They both carry a heavier load than a 17.5 tonner.

Good luck with yer training n test.
White goods used to be loaded by clamp truck straight onto the floor and unloaded the same way. If you wanna be a warehouse skiver, forget paying all that money for your HGV1 training, it won’t help you very much. Changing a super single is done by tyre fitters these days. It is an easy life :smiling_imp:

Yes there are, and quite a few drivers still doing European work as well. I got back from Switzerland this afternoon.
No running money. Company expenses are generally paid for by company card. My boss pays us our overnight money in cash at the start of each trip, so we’ve got eating money.

Dunno if I’m of a size to be called a big boy, but here’s a tip anyway. If in doubt, ask!

Thank you people for your replies. Are Container jobs usually ‘collect from port - take to destination and repeat’?

@IndigoJo - If foreign taking return loads why are UK companies and Govt letting that happen? Are best artic jobs UK now?

Before anybody else wastes their time answering this idiots questions (A320) that is look at his other posts he’s a complete and utter idiot who writes rubbish do not rise to this F------- idiot !!!

With 47 yrs experience uk,m/e n/a and european. the job you are looking for, if available, would tempt me out of retirement. A320 it dosn’t exist now,it did, but you are 30yrs too late…Tony

@swtrky Don’t tell other drivers what to do and what not to do and don’t get heavy just because you lack comprehension.

Go and zb yourself. On the A320 if you like

Judging by his location when he asked for ex European drivers on hear I expect he means the old firm called European from Dover
