Euro 2024

What’s the difference
You only have to look in the past of mangers of most countries, all legue mangers with no experience, even the best of them
Mr Southgate was a exception

Difference?
At club level they are working with the same group of players week in week out,.who in turn work with each other.
The teams because of that (in theory) gell, they know each others traits, qualities and failings.
At International call up level, all that has to be sussed out every few months, and in a very short period of training orior to a game, when they meet up for a qualifier or friendly.
Plus the picked squad is constantly changed for experimentation.
Some coaches/managers AND players do not deal with that aspect too well.
Also you tend to get the ‘clique’ aspect if the squad has a certain few from the same teams, as when Errickson and Capello was there, Southgate coped with that aspect much better than others, and seemed to eradicate it.

You could argue Sam Allerdyce was just as sucessful after his stint as England manager than beforehand.

He also managed a 100% win record while in charge of the national team.

Sure that’s meant to read the FA passed it to the Spanish FA and they binned it.

He certainly was popular but not with everyone
This is good

Here’s a cuveball…

A guy who knows his football, has all his coaching badges, and would tend to have them playing exciting attacking football, him being an excellent ex striker himself…

Alan Shearer.

He does talk the talk and fits the criteria on requirements so why not
He’s more experience on international level than most names being mentioned
Some curve ball

So their following the same pattern as last time, nothing wrong with Lee Carsley, international jobs don’t usually attract experienced managers in their prime, the type of job has ruined many a career
Its not like the saying from footballers its my dream to play for my country, it just doesn’t ring right the same saying coming from a manager, dead man walking comes to mind
Maybe there’s a big surprise ahead or not

A good call I would reck.
Natural progression for him from the England youth to first team… plus he knows all the players well.
I’m quite pleased he got the gig.
