Hi all, great forum, really interesting stuff.
Found it by accident bouncing around the net looking for pics of firms and lorries my dad worked for/i used to see in the 60’s/70’s/80’s, although the 60’s i was a tot and was plonked on top of the engine in dads Scammel Highwayman. I was mad about lorries as a kid, never took my test but did drive Sed Atki 600’s in the RAF on my F500. Still go with my friend sometimes, his dad and mine drove together for Thomas Allen, his dad went onto Henry Smithers then Brains where he was union bod for alot of years. He always asked dad to go to Brains but never did, much to my disgust!!Instead i spent time bunking school or mum let me go with him, 40mph round the Nth Circular-no M25… in AEC Mandator/ERF A series/Atki Borderer/ Although when he went to George Davies he brought home a Merc 1626!! Great
Apart from shunting at Tilbury in a Guy Big J4T. I remember walking over to the tractor plant to see him where he was driving for Neales, an ERF A series/Ford D series, tractors to Harwich. Came home in a Marathon once, i loved it took me and my mates to the shops, he hated it, going to Barking he threw up down the footwell, said it was shake box!
Had a mate when i was a teenager who worked with his fitter dad at Mairs, all F88/89s i think. Canute-dad drove an F86, little egg i called it. /Harris/Bennett/Cabmont/Brains/CGM/ACT/ Used to take photos of the lorries at the tractor plant pulling out Hessanatie trailers, spent long summer days at Tilbury birth 45, memories eh…
Hope i havent bored ya,
Kevin

I Remember taking some photos of a volvo f88 and f10 kEENS Eurotrans they used to park in a cafe just off the old A 130 nr the carpenters arms roundabout towards rayleigh any one no whos they were and where was Keens yardkeens was run by laurie keens, his son mick and nephew alec, the yard was at newbury park, near ilford, later they moved to evans old yard behind the ship and shovel,
i worked for them in ilford late 70s early 80s, i had a new f88 on a “s” plate, we were doing mostly benelux then but i think when they moved to barking they concentrated on their container work,
when i first started they running a fleet of powder tanks but, like any other job, the rate cutters move in and mick told me that it wasn`t worthwhile renewing, so he got rid of them all.![]()
I used to work for Keens from 1983 to 1989, i have some photos i will try to put them on here, some of the names i can remember is Bill Bowvil, Jonny Walker, Pat Bellam, i started off in a 7.5 tonner then moved up to a class 3 merc on the Brussles run. then i got a class 2 Daf with a sleeper pod on top.

THESE LAST 2 PICS JUST INTO SUFFOLK AT ACTON Nr SUDBURY WHERE THE GRASS IS STILL GROWING AROUND THEIR WHEELS !!
Does anybody recognise these drivers or remember the company A.E.Evans on Ripple Road,Barking? The photos were taken in the 80s and the vehicles may have belonged to Albert Evans son,Richard as they are not in the well-known grey livery and not AECs/Leylands/Marathons.I left Evans in 1979 but I’m almost certain the son’s company was called Revans and went across the water using the Olau ferries from Sheerness.
I seem to recognise the bloke in the overalls and I’ve been told the other one was a fitter.I worked out of Evans Sheffield depot and left in 1979.
The driver with the tash was called Ron cant think of his second name he was still on Evans in 1986 when i left they used to park there lorries in the cafe near the Orsett ■■■■

I left Evans in 1979 Carna, there were no Seddons or Dafs on the fleet then, unless Richard Evans ran some.Mandators,Marathons and Buffalos were the mainstay of the fleet then.

When I used to run to Fords Tractor plant in the early 70’s there was a company in and out of there all the time called Readers, now I’m sure they were essex based, but it was a long time ago, anyone remember them, light blue i think maybe leyland buffalos.
hi, in the late 70’s i worked for a firm called cammellwagon for a couple of intresting months. did a lot of CP ships work with an old A series ERF,we parked up in a little yard behind some houses on the a 13 opposite Fords at Dagenham.the strange thing was i never had to fill up with diesel as it was always full the next day but every night there was always a Readers unit or two parked up in our yard.the last day i worked there i was doing my paper work when we was raided by the police and customs and excise, everyone was arrested except the boss an irishman called kieran who had disapeared.after an hour or so of questioning the boss came back with his tail between his legs and told the cops that none of the drivers had anything to do with the scam(which we didnt) and we all went home.i never went back there but it seems that most of Readers drivers where on the derv fiddle.i think Readers were something to do with May & Bakers chemicals.
cheers steve.
Keiran Butler - LOL!
Anyone know how far out these travel ? they’re based in Nazeing.
I believe they only run one artic, but the 13 rigids they have are painted blue, whats the reason for that, this white looks good.
theyre the trucks that are always doing like government work with the road resurfacing companys their fm12’s are smart to
