Defoy were indeed owned by the same management as Status Quo, I believe it was called the Quarry Group. Terry Crux wa the MD of Defoy , his brother Alan on the management side of Quo.
I remember Defoy also having Scania 81’s, MVX …V ■■
Two of their drivers went to work for B.J. MYERS when Defoy went bust, Fred
Tyler (Died of cancer late '80’s whilst on for Myers) and Ray Bigger (retired from Myers approx 4 years ago aged 69).
Old login failed for some reason so this is a new login for itwas me.
As for defoy, definately in Barking, just off the A13 heading towards london on the left. Not sure about the Scania 81’s all I remember is the 110, and 141’s. And I’m terrible with names so haven’t a clue about the old drivers.
KW:
Harwich Haulage ran Scania’s,dark blue.I ran with one of their driver’s,Eric Gould who later went on to drive for Visbeen, sometime in the early 80’s down to Switzerland.
There were at least three companies with the Harwich name:
Harwich Haulage,Harwich Express & Harwich Transport.
Last time I saw Eric we were in the check-in at FX. He said that he had just got out of chokey after about 5 yrs. on a ■■■ rap after many warnings/ fines. " I’ve lost my wife ,my home &all my money I’m living in a caravan in Carter country & I don,t give a zip ! He soon was running his own drivers agency the last I heard. Great guy ,old Eric !

When Geater got his first 110 non sleeper the driver stepped out the cab & broke his leg. He forgot it was so high . I notice the one in the snap has a nice load of handball ,the usual stuff for Geaters ,bricks being his favourite ( Handball , of course )

readers had contract vehicles in may&baker at dagenham east, also internal in fords and loads from thames board mills, but more waste paper in than finished product out. when i was there we had thames traders with scammel hitch trailers, they were pigs to pick up loaded.

I remember Henry Smithers at the Orsett Container base.
I’d just got my licence then (mid seventies), I really wanted to work for them, but had no experience.
Nice fleet of ERF ‘A’ series.
