Well, the ERF just pipped the 140 in Pat Kennett’s 1975 Euro Test for Truck magazine. And if it’s a 111, then the ERF will be the better performer I reckon.
Yet another pic of No.49 on the reg (06-09-TB in the livery of Groenenboom) has come to light! This image was emailed to me this morning.
The nearest pic to it that we have so far is this one:
So we have a new pic
It occurs to me that one of the reasons for the ERF NGC’s success in the Middle East must have been its high ground-clearance. Those 12.00X20 tyres, coupled with the uncluttered chassis area would definitely have kept its skirts out of the gutter.
Pulling a Jameson trailer but not sure who owned the unit, Hampshire registration though, Buzzer
nmp
That 5WW-cabbed unit was one of Jamesons own, if the pic below is anything to go by - (unless of course a subbie had his painted in their livery).
the model shown in the picture is KFH 248P, it was driven by my brother, John.It is a PKC kit, which I purchased, and asked Dean Prudence to build it for me,there were a few additions to the model which were not standard, such as the green wind deflectors, that my brother fitted himself. I took this truck to the middle east, it was like driving a rocket compared to what I had been driving. Dean got first in class at the show for this model.
Thank you very much for answering the question I asked back in June! I’m glad the model received due recognition. It sounds as if it’s gone to a good home!

Buzzer

Good image Buzzer . It’s No.03 on the register. Dutch reg 87-69-RB. At the time of that picture it was operated by Willemstein of Barendrecht in the livery of Goedkoop & de Geus.
Morning Ro
A few bits and bobs.
- The Vijore unit in the pic had Toyota written on the door so dont know if it
was used for transporting car parts or possibly forklifts or ??? Cant remember
of we already knew this or not. If we never then another lead to possibly find
more photos/info.
2.A French driver commented on this photo stating that he drove an ERF in 1974
and was based in the Marne department. Now it could have been an early B series
which came out in 1974 or a NGC he never said. The thing that intrested me was
the fact that Chalons-en-Champagne,is in the Marne department and there was the
Garage de la Marne that we know was a ERF dealer. The transport company was
called Transport Fortier. If you remember number 83 on the list Transport
Jacquemin was photographed at the Routier in Chalons-en-Champagne.
(Formerly Chalons-sur-Marne)
Came across an intresting message between two French drivers who both drove for Transport La Fleche Marseillaise from La Talaudiere which is in the Loire department 42.
They have confirmed that La Fleche operated two NGC’s. The first was the orange draw-bar number 12 on the list. The second was a unit reg 1356 – 42. Cant make out digits 5&6 bbut looks like either RB or RD.
The unit is shown here in 1975 and i assume new and was off to Tehran,Iran.
I have an old clipping when i first started looking for information on the draw-bar
one that states they did hardly any trips and he thinks just one to the Middle East.
The same drivers name has been given to me by two seperate drivers about who drove the draw-bar and one said that when it was sold he bought it. That would possibly explain why the photo was taken at Chalon-sur-Saone which is about 110 miles away from La Talaudiere where La Fleche were based.
As usual messages sent to drivers and waiting for responses and as you know often theydont reply and sometimes have died.
Heres the new one.
Morning Deano! Nice post.
Regarding the first pic, NFH 120P had ERF Trucks with a Union Jack on its doors in all the other pics. It was on the regular run to build the animal feed plant near Baghdad. In this picture it is with other Middle-East wagons so it could be in Europe on Toyota work later in its life. Or in Turkey. I once had to pick up two Toyota Corollas in a tilt from Toyota in Adapazari, so you may well be right.
Regarding the second pictures and your theory about the French drawbar driver and Transport Fortier, I deffo think you’re onto something here. He wouldn’t have been driving a B-series in '74 as they only came with day-cabs and the full sleeper (ie not Jennings) didn’t come out until 2 or 3 years later. And all the locations fit. Keep pressing on that one; it would nice to nail that drawbar and know the rest its details. Good work!
Great detective work regarding the La Fleche Marseillaise NGCs Dean!
You had previously found out that they had two and that one was a unit and the other was the drawbar (No.12 on my register). You also found out that they both did Middle East. This information has been recorded on the register for some time now, with the unit at No.97 (it’ll show up on your copy of the register). And now, thanks to you, we have an almost complete registration number and a brilliant photo! This means that entry No.97 is a ‘definite’ and belongs firmly to the family of known NGCs. You’re a star
Dean, could it be that we’ve also found the mystery unit that appeared in the Dai Davies ERF history book, erroneously described as having a 5MW cab (it was a 7MW of course)?
A note of caution though, it might be Belgian as didn’t A-J say the building behind was CDB in Brussels?
MMmm… maybe this post is more of a red herring.
I will see if i can contact the driver who was driving the Vijore ERF and see what he says about Toyota being on the doors.
Re The Fortier draw-bar. The driver has not posted or been on facebook for about 8 years so reckon he may have died. I suppose it still could have been a B series if he only did local work ? The sleeper like you say come out in 1976 from memory. It could also be a 5MW in theory. But it still could be a NGC so worth researching.
The red Belgium NGC with the white strip is indeed intresting as identical apart from the rear mudflaps from what i can see ? I cant see a number plate so was it
a demonstrator there ? Its a shame we cant see if the La Fleche one had a cat walk as that was not a standard fitting.I wonder if ERF started putting the white strip on the NGC’s they were selling in Europe ?
That strip is in identical positions on both trucks.
Yes, possibly a day-cab B-series or a 5MW indeed.
As for the white strip, it wasn’t an ERF factory thing. It’s already hitched up to a trailer so it may have been delivered and awaits only its new plates. And maybe the pic is in France after all. Do we have any pics of MABO premises? Or those of La Fleche Marseillaise for that matter!
EDIT to add: But I’m sure A-J said that was CDB in Belgium. Somewhere back on this long thread he posted several pictures showing the CDB premises and the Rotterdam premises.
EDIT 2 to confirm: it’s definitely outside the CDB premises in Belgium. I’ve checked back on this thread. I suppose it is possible that La Fleche Marseillaise could have sourced their NGC from neighbouring Brussels if MABO in Paris didn’t have one in stock. Now THERE’S a thought!
