ERF and Fodens are they still hated

NB12:
All the big British companies, public sector vehicles should have been British, Royal mail should have had a full fleet of ERFs/Fodens

to be fair royal mail bought leyland trucks & to a degree although it’s now DAF / pacaar they still do
the british army bought only bedford & scammel & look what happened to them .

sorry brittish trucks got left behind simply because they were priced out of their own market, i thnk if it wasn’t for the foreigners we’d still be driving around in wooden coachbuilt cabs, a single axle braked multiaxle set up a ratchet handbrake, crash gearbox , top speed of 35 & a pop up monkey that sprung out of the dash when the air got low , a 12 volt portable wireless the size of a suitcase strapped to the dashboard a decent donkey jacket in the winter as well as a hessian sack to cover yer knees, is anyone surprised british industry was left behind

we were the best in the world at all we did , so we sat back & gloated , & while we were all patting ourselves on the back with our feet up we were over taken , by the time the brandy glasses were empty we couldn’t catch up again.
the only people that really bought british were the foreigners & that was with the view to close us down thats not just the british transport industry that goes for the whole country !

What the bloody hell’s wrong with a donkey jacket, a few holes in the floor and a ■■■■■■ on the dash ? And those coachbuilt bodies had a bit of character. Some of the stuff we used to drive should have had a flag that came up when the air got HIGH
I was in an old AEC (I think) with the handbrake, not a ratchet between me and the door. It was bloody freezing and I pulled into a building site with eight thousand bricks. I put on the handbrake and jumped out. Well I had me jacket done up, and the ■■■■■■■ handbrake went up the back of me jacket. I couldn’t undo the buttons, so I was hanging there till a big paddy came and lifted me off. It bloody hurt as well. Needless to say I never did that again.

That must have been a bit of a squeeze.

quality post

There is still one British truck manafacturer still going strong and it still dominates its market over the best Europe has to offer!!!

I used an ERF in my class 2 lessons, brilliant to drive and no problems with it at all. A local company around my way still has P and W reg plates on the go and they look brand new.
Seen loads of EC11’s and Scania 143 on the M1 yesterday, so they can’t be that bad.

I’ve driven a Foden once, it didn’t like 5th gear. I tried low and high split but it just wouldn’t have it.
It was basically a DAF interior except with Foden badges, ■■■■■■■■ or Gardiner engine and it was on a 53 plate.

After a trip down twin splitter memory lane, I recall driving a couple of Ivecos with the box fitted, Im sure ANC had some, or am I just losing the plot.

We weren’t spoilt for space in those days.

We had an 85cf ex post office with one in, not as good an installation as the erf but better then the strato, hated the cables especially when they siezed or the roll pin on the box end fell out ( had that happen coming out of dock gate 20 in southampton when fully loaded :imp: ).

After passing my class 2 i went on to drive an E14 eight legger, evil thing that would loosen your fillings at the slightest bit of rough road, did my class one and went stright onto an EC10 celect with twin splitter, loved it, 8 months later had a brand new from the very first batch,an ECX 405. Did over a million k in this in 5 years before it finally dropped to pieces.Still think it was a better truck than my present R420.
