transporter man:
This was the first ‘B’ series to go onto the road in the North East, the 8 wheelers were introduced before the tractor units. This is one of ERF’s puplicity photo’s
HRG60N came with 8 speed range change David Brown box ,which we eventually changed for a Fuller 9509, also had a fiber glass front
bumper.
Yes the box was a big let down, it also had different screen in do you remember we had to change it & put some corner pieces in the screen aperture to increase the radius on the screen corners, the next B series came with the modified screen.

We also had problems with the headlight apron (were hinged at bottom top held in place with nylon socket and peg at top)
JTY910P was the same.
Hi,All,
On the subject of when the "B"series first went on the road. The works where I was based was the first of Rugby Cement 's to get the “B” series 8 wheeler. this was also the first truck we had that had a Tacho fitted in it. The driver who fetched it up from Rugby said he wasn’t driving it any more cos he wasn’t having the little red light in the tacho spying on him every time he went over 50mph. We learn, don’t we
Heres another of the same truck, PAW do you recognise Youngs garage in the background. You can see the shape of the screen is lot more square in the corners than the later ones.

Remember when we went to lift screen out of packing crate how it bent, getting it in was no mean feat, see J R Youngs in background ,was it Crookhall ?

Yes it was Crookhall. Going back to the screen I remember there was four of us puting the rubber around with screen which seemed to flex a lot & a spanner dropped out of Jeds top pocket onto it all our hearts stopped, we did manage to get it in the end.
