I think RUD 9 X was an ex. Meachers of Southampton unit, when I used to park in Western esplanade I used to hear those 8 cyl ERF’s go out at night, they sounded really sweet.

This is one of Bubbs scrapbook clippings taken from the Southampton thread,

not sure where RUD 9 X came from, think hinclifes of bury might have sold it to joe barton, i seem to remember allmans of the stoke area having RUD 7 X, not 100% sure tho.

Hello bma…a rough idea for ERF models was the A series(large grille) was first made in 1972 to 1976
the B series was 1976 untill 1982.then the C series 1982until 1994…then the EC series 1994 untill 2000
2000 was the start of the ECX
to look at more ERF’s look on… Google…Bill Clowes Truck photo’s…at the top you will see Piscasa photo’s
this will find you many truck photo’s plus some dates…i hope you like them

an other question then witch are fiberglass and witch steel cabs

Hiya the LV series cab right up untill the A series are glass fibre the B…C…E…EC are a plastic
panels stuck to a steel frame. the MW…MV are steel cabs basiclly the same as the seddon
in the above photo and the scammell crusader. jennings did the cab work for ERF from day one
(boalloy made 50 cabs) in the early 60s(the door handle was fitted vertical).a morris type cab
was also made in the midlands but the was in the 50s. the steel cabs (MW…MV) come from
motor panels in parts form… roof /back/doors and frames.plus the strenght channel for the front.
these was assembled at jennings(which was now owned by ERF) the MV front was glass fibre.
All the inside we made at sandbach dash front scuttle floor bonnets seatboxes and bunk.
some doors and frames was shortened so the axel was under the cab and not setback
with the step infront of the wheel. I worked at jennings for 5 years working on cabs
doing panel beating and sheet metal work.
This is a setback axel cab.with the door modified from the seddon/guy long door.
the lorry with the open door has a setback axel.

this is a short door with no step, the axel is forward

I hope this helps
John
