On Saturday 26th Feb I attended the Thornycroft Register AGM held at Marston’s Brewery Social Club Burton on Trent. In the Morning we meet at Fred & Jonathan Lawton’s garage to view some of their vintage restorations have a look at my website under the page title Old Lorries to view their latest an Eight wheeler Thornycroft (whoops off topic but worth a visit  ) Down to the nitty gritty, Steve Woodings our parts coordinator took me to look at a couple of ERF’s and I am posting the pictures of them. regards Big Al

Hiya…a chap i know well and is very hand with engines said to me. if the new fangled oils of today
had been about when they built the big Gardner results would have been better for the engine…(this chap
run one for a while).

The other E-Series posted by Al is an ex-Eric Vick motor, which (unless I’m mistaken) also had a Gardner in it. Whether it was a 6LYT or not, I don’t know.

One here which is owned by the owner of Titan Truck Stop.

One from my album of trucks I used to drive

I had an E`16 for quite a while, unfortunately it had been cut down to about 325, and half of those horses were dead. Still it was the fastest truck on the road; in Germany on the many long uphill no overtaking stretches you could be sure to find me right at the front of the queue. It only let me down once when the alternator broke but after 24 hour parked on a service station a new one had been flown out and I was back on the road…

Here’s one I drove earlier. An ‘A’ Series When parked on the Venlo border between the latest Volvo and Scania all the truck spotters would be around this. Note the nest box sorry sleeper cab above the two spare cylinders

they did buy one or two units off s jones of aldridge, jerry cooke would know more about that !!

One here well past its sell by date unfortunatly.
