big al, did your erf belong to fountain bros at stoke mandeville at one time?

Oh so close TVdriver but no cigar. D417 PPP and D418 PPP were bought from Sellars & Batty Hatfield and
delivered to Mackay Transport, Watford. After reading an article in REVS the ERF magazine Ken Freeman
got in touch and told me he drove D417 and his brother drove D418, they ran out of Liverpool to Watford.
I was at a show in Yorkshire in 2008 with Mildred my 1940 Thornycroft Sturdy Diesel and a 1940 Fordson Tractor,
I usually leave Gertie (D417 PPP) up in the compound for low loaders but she looked so well I decided to take her
up to the show area. There an excited steward made the same mistake as you “my friend Mike Fountain used to
own that lorry, he is visiting me this weekend and attending the show later on he will be so pleased to see it”
Sure enough a little later Mike Fountain came across and introduced himself, he knew straight away that it
was not his lorry. We had a real good natter about lorries, drivers and times gone by. I was able to tell him
I knew where another of his ex fleet was, an Atki Borderer with a sleeper pod and 8 pot Gardner engine. We
exchanged addresses and a few days later I received in the post some wonderful pictures of his fleet from
the 70’s and 80’s But now to the crux of the matter here is a picture of his ERF and I can see why some people
think it is the one from his fleet, notice the number. And below pictures sent to me by Ken of D417 PPP and D418
enjoy regards Big Al

Ken Freeman sent me this picture of his ERF, Ken drove my ERF unit from new as told in the previous post

No but it was done by a friend of mine Alan Atkinson, Alan used to run a large fleet
but now concentrates on trailer hire. He ran Fred’s steamer around the country when
they were filming the television series (lucky chap) regards Big Al

Did this have a tag axle once upon a time? It looks very like one I saw for sale a few years ago

yes she did have a tag axle when i bought her. (nothing a bit of gas could’nt cure) only need a shed load of money and time to get her back to tip top mainly time. my father had a brand new Bseries in 79 (picture on hereford hauliers) but the guy who owns that one won’t sell it to me so this was the next best thing with a 14ltr ■■■■■■■

Ex pandoro c series that was written off after a accident.Originally fitted with a ■■■■■■■ L10 290 and 9 speed fuller.we rebuilt it and fitted a 14lt ■■■■■■■ E380 coupled to a fuller 13 speed box and a 3.08 rockwell 180 rear axle.what a machine it turned out to be running at 60 mph at 1400rpm in 1988 was out of this world!
