Great thread, this! My all time favourite lorry
The yellow and red B-series of Kevin Sheahan…could anyone confirm that it was owned from new by Derek H Hicks from Cirencester? Driven by a lovely fella called Reg until Derek retired sometime in the late 80’s I think…
Great photo’s guys, thank you

Reg Long! Thats the fella… Like I said, lovely chap with a cracking sense of humour. His wagon looks great now, as great as she did when Derek had her. I had a 265 Roller in a B-series running at 32 tons and Reg had his with the 290 running at 38 and I had no chance of keeping up!!
Sorry, I don’t remember your Grandad but it was a long time ago!! I do remember Archie, I think he had a Seddon Atkinson 400? I can recall the trucks moreso than the drivers because I was only a truck-mad kid at the time A Volvo F86, an 88 (N reg I think), a P reg B-series that Derek drove himself, Reg’s T reg and Archie’s Seddon. I seem to think there was another one or two after but I missed a few years on the road between riding around in the school hols and actually driving. There was a 4 year gap whilst I was in the garage…
Are Reg and Derek still around?
I presume she’s your wagon now - she looks a picture, a credit to you. I bet she sounds lovely too, those rollers had a lovely tone to them when they were pulling hard…

Hi Dennis,
300 8cyl turbo after my time my brother Dennis thrashed it from
new then Dicks nephew Martin did the same(never ailed a thing).
When Martin drove it they did send it to the oriental chap at Gardners
to tune the injector pump.
This photo shows it updated to three axles and a bottom end respray,

Hiya Malc thanks for the info on the Cseries.Youv’e just reminded me about that “gent” at Patricroft as we used to run our new Gardners for about 2 or 3 month the book them into Patricroft and gave them a “going over” free of charge and it always improved their performance according to the drivers1 Cheers Dennis.

As far as can remeber The Seddon atkinson was driven by Ivor Pizzey, Reg started off at Derek’s with a Six wheeled, Bootsy Mauson drove the six wheeled Albion, Leyland Retriever, which was Jerry Evans’s, Jerry then moved onto the F86, Archie had the first of Hicks ERF’s A series with a 240 ■■■■■■■■ Ivor pizzey Then Joined and Drove the other F86, Due to Jerry doing most of the long distants he Moved up to there only F88. i know that Derek is still around. did you live local at that time.

I was meaning the actual conversion work by Reliance Malc not buying an un-adulterated new chassis straight from the factory via Reliance!Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
Knowing the lads if the conversions were crap that would be the end of all deals.
