That’s a striking livery of Wakefield’s heritage!!!

The Wakefields are originally a Kendal,■■■■■■■ (Westmorland) family who’s home “The Old House” is still situated on the southern end of Stricklandgate( and still in the Families ownership) in the town. The house was still the home of the last Lord Wakefield who only passed away a few years ago,his immediate decendants are still in business and their head office is still in Kendal, their main business’s are the Ulswater Navigation co. and the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway ( La’ l ratty).Originally they were Dynamite manufactures at Sedgwick south of the town and they started one of the first Banks in Kendal,in the 18th century which ultimately became Barclays ( or Midland/HSBC ?) Ultimately,Lord Wakefield founded Castrol Oil but IIRC they never sold Petrol or Derv but just specialised in lube oil!.Cheers Bewick.

One thing wrong with that shot------ it has the Chapman Superide seat which was crap and not a patch on the Bostrom which we had fitted in our "A"Series units and they were trimmed with the same greenish covering as the Chapmans so ERF had know excuse not to fit them as standard. The ones we retro fitted into the Borderers were covered in black material but were the same seats as the ERF Bostroms. Then to cap it all both Sed/Atk and ERF continued using the Chapman seats in their new models that replaced the Borderers and the “A” Series, they sure were a penny pinching shower so no wonder operators piled into the Scandinavians during this time, what did you get as standard on the Scania, well the Bostrom of course although Volvo initially used the Isringhausen seat in the F10 even after using the Bostrom in the F88.I’ll have to really get out more eh! slavering about seats !! Cheers Bewick.

You certainly seem to be at the “cutting edge” of cab seating technology “H”, so if I was you I’d get that seat design patented without delay  Sounds like it could be very comfortable  ,well it sure would keep you awake eh! But it would be no good in the mates side in a Power Plus Octopus, perish the thought “H” I was used to a very comfortable seat and head rest (bonnet),give me a knock when we pull onto the Hollies Eric !! Cheers Dennis.

Very true, I had a good chat to the owner, He had ran it for a long time, Its Gardner engine sounded as sweet as a nut, He used to get up to Newcastle with it and reload from James at Bedlington, Regards Larry.

She’s still working I often see her collecting steel fabrications from an engineering firm in Colwick Nottingham
I speak to the owner he brings her out in busier times

Nothing wrong with the E- and EC-series, but the C-series should have had a longer life-cycle,
perhaps with minor adjustments, this series really shows to be one of the best ERF-lorries!!!

Spot on, mate! There are many who would say that the C-series was ERF’s finest… Robert

Along with the 3- and 5-MW’s (both LHD and RHD)

Hiya,
As you know Dennis I never came upon Eric parked up should I have done I
would certainly have given him one of my knotted ropes I did have spares
to gift to fellow tug and drag men, they were marvellous for keeping the
nodding trailer boys at the top of their game especially in my very early
days when he had a brake to operate and even later if I couldn’t kip why
should he, I was known to go through more trailer boys than diesel.
