Now there sits a man with an open mind. You can feel the draft from here.
If ignorance ever goes to $40 a barrel, I want drilling rights on Supersmiley’s head.

Can i have transport rights? i have 30 ERF tankers standing by!

And a 13 speed fuller and no speed limiter. That just leaves the engine to sort out.Can I have a Rolls Eagle diesel please instead of a ■■■■■■■■ but if I could have a Bedford TM 4400 with a Detroit in it I’d be even happier.

But Super Smiley did seem to generalise by saying that anyone who prefers the older stuff is primitive? and an 1980’s ERF was’nt exactly the best of the bunch whereas that Bedford had a very comfortable cab.And while he’d be out there weekended or on yet another night out because he’s run out of hours driving his Scanny limited to 90 kmh I’d be at home finished.Just hope there’s no speed cameras on the route.

Sorry Bedford’s AEC’s and other such classics only. Preferably something without the frivolity’s of heater doors and other such weight wasting ideas, Remember PAYLOAD is everything.

See these young un’s cant handle a bit of thinking behind the wheel. As far as they are concerned a semi-auto has paddle shift like an F1 car not a gearstick like this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN_3nt9cerU

Hes not that good, his left legs going up and down like a yo yo, leave the clutch alone.

thats what i was thinking aswell, nice too see the old cab on the man tho that brought some nice memories

Aah yes,a good old MAN ! I ran a 22.331 back in 95,but mine had the 13 speed fuller box. What a great old wagon that was and I could almost make the gearbox talk ,lol ! (I regularly used to match or beat a Volvo F16 that ran on the same contract !). Strangely,I never really got on with the twin splitter boxes that I encountered later on. I’d buy another of those old MAN’s right now,if I could find one ! Oh,and that had ‘wind up’ windows ,too…

Wind up windows were always better than electric. They go up and down faster, you can put the bugger up if you leave it down while some Elf, N’ Safety ■■■■ has your keys. And a pich they could usually be forced down if you locked your keys in your cab

My gawd ! If it hadn’t been for the music, you could’ve heard the poor ol’ gearbox crunching and grinding. I know we all have to start somewhere, but I’d have been too embarrassed to put that on you tube super smiley.

My God lads, you all had it so [zb] easy. Even in the old days. I’m nearing the end of my 30’s and when i started out in haulage, i had no heating, no electric windows, no fancy cd player, In fact i didn’t even have tax or insurance. I got my first taste of being an owner driver back in the early 80’s when i used to haul turf… wait for it… with a donkey and cart (no kidding). Turf (peat) is a solid fuel which we cut with a slade. Once cut it’s left to dry, once dry it’s then footed to dry thoroughly and we would then load the donkey and cart and draw it to the road, which in our case was about 3/4 of a mile from the road across rough bogland, where we would then handball it all off into a big heap, ready for a high sided tipper to collect it and take it home. Once the tipper was loaded, we’d climb up on top of the load for the ride home, which would be quite a hairy ride. No issues with health and safety back then. Anyway, that was my first taste of haulage, as primitive and as hard as it was, it was fun. No diesel costs, just a sack of hay for the donkey and a jam sarnie (usually crawling with ants) for me. Please note: i put these … in, as a tribute to superspotty, er, i mean supersmiley. :grimacing:

HA ! I pees on you, we didn’t even have a donkey.

i learn to drive in an erf, think it was an ec9, 4x2 rigid. great truck to drive, im glad i learnt to drive in a basic truck with a tacho behind the wheel and a tape deck.

was similar to this truck

and for the record the new scannys are crap, 55 plate onwards, they dont feel like they are attached to the road, steerings far too light, brakes are crap, and the most important bit to me, the drivers seat is the most uncomfy seat ive ever sat on. dafs and volvos have the best seats, merc is close after them. give me a daf anyday though if i could get an erf i would rather have one.

ps i had an 02 plate foden with a 12 speed eaton twin splitter, had that when i was 21, great truck once you got the hang of the gearbox, i left the job because they wouldnt give me the foden back after giving me a brand new automatic daf. i didnt care bout the new truck or the fact it was a daf or even the fact that the radio actually worked int he daf and it had a cd player. i had grown to like the foden alot and the gearbox was awesome
