Enhanced reversing tuition

Greetings, new here and looking for guidance.

I am hoping to book with the forum sponsor for C / C+E training (or whatever iteration is put in place through test change implementation).

However, I am wondering if there is a well-regarded course offered anywhere which offers additional reversing training.

This isn’t because I think there will be difficulties in passing the test/s, but instead because there seems to be a chasm between fresh driver and real world requirements in a proper job.

Some of the reversing of hgvs I have seen both in real life and on youtube looks a long way removed from a cone-based, dare I say generic, test procedure.

I would like to start a job having additional competence through additional training.

Therefore, any course information welcomed.

My experience is limited to hiring a C1 a couple of times courtesy of legacy licence / grandfather rights, so next to nothing.

Thanks.

I would think Most if not all Standard training courses are going to concentrate on getting you ready to pass the test type reverse but most schools offer training by the hour, so I am sure that they can sort you out with some practice in more real world type situations.

Pass test then book a couple of hours real world reversing - most know an ind est where there are empty units etc

I do wonder whether after passing test you are still insured to do that but the training provider can inform you on that issue

It takes a long time to get good at reversing in the real world.

Save your money and work at a depot that is willing to send a driver out with you for a week. You still won’t be much good at reversing even after a week. But you will be good enough to then go out on your own where the real learning begins.

After 3 to 6 months of reversing you will no longer look like a beginner. After 5 to 10 years you will look like a pro.

Most trainers will offer additional reversing training as it is often seen that the “test standard” reverse is inadequate for the real world.

It’s reasonable to expect that more practice and differing scenarios will improve performance. IME, the candidate can often manage the reverse but hasn’t got a clue where to position to “make it through that gateway” or whatever. And this is something that can be taught, to a point, but will benefit from practice.

If you’re thinking of booking with PSTT, simply let them know that you would like additional reverse and it can be made to happen.

Four helpful replies. Thanks folks.

Appreciated.

If PSTT can fit that in Pete around the test change obligations they will have, then I will certainly do that. Just cleared a few things my end to be in a position to do a couple of weeks straight training. Will call PSTT tomorrow to see which month is earliest available for ground up training.

Thanks folks.
