ATT: Good answer and right attitude, how about bringing it to the Retro truck show?
Neil.
Wish you good luck with it Att,and look forward to seeing your progress, and your smile even bigger.
att, you are a lucky man, and good luck to you. Of all the US lorries I have owned, my Mack was, and is my favourite. Bubbleman found me a photograph of her (page6 of this thread). They are lorries with real charisma, I hope you have great enjoyment and pleasure from her. Cheerio for now.

Cracking photo that!Got any more with plant on board, that a 651 scraper?
att:
Piccies…Clickable thumbs
Asked a local haulier if he would do the job, but as backload…By luck, he was taking a machine down to Maidenhead, so we skipped across the 25 to Essex and picked it up…
I drove it on, bit of a job with binding front brakes.
All loaded, ready for the off.
Once back home, it was raining and dark, so no piccies, which is shame, as it looked impressive in the little lane whilst unloading.
Had good look around it today, I am going to enjoy this project!
So far I know it was first registered in Holland/Netherlands (I have the old No. plates) It was then sold to a film company vehicle provider in 1988 and registered as PLG from that time on, so it was only used for 10 years on the road properly.
It has been kept in a warehouse for the last 23 years of it life, so is in good condition…I keep dipping the oil and it keeps coming back clean! It has been looked after to a certain degree.Hopefully the old girl will be on the road early next year.
hi att
good luck with the restoration mate,
doesn’t look like it’ll need much doing to it & if its been dry stored for 23yrs even better.
keep the pics coming of the progress.
cheers

That means a great deal to me, coming from yourself, who has the experience
And thanks to everyone else for the kind words.
She does not need much to fettle her, but it will still take me time to do…Good time, my own time, the best sort of time.
The Mack Museum in the USA, have been very helpful too.

The livery it is in at the moment, is very close to the options offered by Mack in their sales bochures of 1978. I have the brochures…So know it is very close, so I see no reason to change it. It comes up well on the place I have T Cut, polished and waxed, so I will capitalise on what I have and bring it up the best I can.
It is very much of the ‘period’ So will remain as it is for now.
I intend to track down a trailer that will be of the same period, but that may take a bit of finding. But that is half the fun.

Lovely; I am a big fan of trucks restored and painted in “original” factory colours. Good luck to you. Can’t wait to see it on the show circuit. Ash.

Only my opinion - good luck with the project but you woke up this morning without a headache, so why go out & buy one?
“Buy what you like, not what you think you should have”! I am envious of you att, I hope 1 day to be in a position to do the same, the Mack is an iconic wagon that was always a joy to see because of its rarity over here! I’ve never driven 1, they might have their faults but then there isn’t a wagon that has ever been built that someone couldn’t find something wrong with, you are fulfilling a dream & as long as you are happy that’s all that matters, good luck!
YAZ 6411 - anyone know the history of this?
Few more UK reg Macs i came across.
Peter Beasley drove Bonzo Bear for Chris Miller of Preston, Peter took over Bonzo Bear from Mick Brady who went on to drive one of Ruttle’s Macks.(Mick also drove one of the Yellow King of The Road Macks) Peter kindly gave me permission to publish his picture of Bonzo Bear.

Took this picture at Leyland Commercial Museum on Sunday 18th Sept 2011 Phil Whitter’s restored Mack
