Tomorrow, I realise a childhood ambition…I am picking up my very own Mack!
I have bought a 1978 F786T.
In 1978, I was thirteen years of age, dad was a truck driver and I was massively into trucks, all sorts and every sort.
I was in trucks every school holidays. Clysedales, boxers and Marathons. Dodge commanders, D series and Merc 1617. The trucks my dad drove.
But my heart was with Macks…They had a distributor in Bolton, Bradsawgate. I went there and took pictures of the Macks, watched the Bulldog they had eat its food.....And what a bloody mess it made! I got all the sales literature, the brochures for the interstater, from 1978. Joined the MACK club of GB and had the bomber jacket, the holdall(for school) Baseball cap, sweatshirt, the works...I was a MACK fanatic. Now, 33 years down the line and at the age of 46, I am buying my very own Mack......1978 F786T Never wanted the KWs, Peterbilts etc. Just the Mack.

The truck needs some work, but nothing too much, I restored a Diamond Reo 6X6 M35A2 a few years back, that had sat in a field for 10 years, so I guess this will be easier.

It started life in Holland/Netherlands, so is Euro spec. It has spent the last 23 years in a warehouse and done occasional film work…So is in good condition body wise…Just mechanical stuff to sort.

Tomorrow, is the first day…Of the rest of my fruitful life :sunglasses:

So one more for the collection of English Macks.

It goes without saying…plenty pictures please. Good luck.

ATT, good luck and congratulations on acheiving your dream. Just make sure you take time out tomorrow to stop and think about what you are doing and fully enjoy it.

How about bringing it to the Retro truck show near Warwick on 17/18th September? RETRO TRUCK SHOW 18th September - OLD TIME LORRIES, COMPANIES AND DRIVERS (INTERACT - Trucknet UK

i live just up the road from where mack was in bolton infact its not more than half a mile away , i used to walk down there and look over the wall at the macks .
you say it was bradshawgate ? you sure ? it was seven star mack and as i remember it was down thicketford brow not bradshawgate :open_mouth: i dont remember it being anywhere near bradshawgate , bradshawgate is town centre bolton .

as i grew older my stepdad drove one that was built in bolton , it had a plate on the inside of the door that said “seven star mack bolton” . they built them in" CKD form " i believe it was called , the company later moved to chorley and was called chorley mack trucks or something like .

dam stupid fingers …

All home and tucked up now
Got a local haulier, to pick her up on back haul :sunglasses:

All I have to do know, is get the grin off my face

If the wife chucks me out, at least I have somewhere to sleep

Piccies…Clickable thumbs
Asked a local haulier if he would do the job, but as backload…By luck, he was taking a machine down to Maidenhead, so we skipped across the 25 to Essex and picked it up…

I drove it on, bit of a job with binding front brakes.

All loaded, ready for the off.

Once back home, it was raining and dark, so no piccies, which is shame, as it looked impressive in the little lane whilst unloading.

Had good look around it today, I am going to enjoy this project!

So far I know it was first registered in Holland/Netherlands (I have the old No. plates) It was then sold to a film company vehicle provider in 1988 and registered as PLG from that time on, so it was only used for 10 years on the road properly.
It has been kept in a warehouse for the last 23 years of it life, so is in good condition…I keep dipping the oil and it keeps coming back clean! It has been looked after to a certain degree.

Hopefully the old girl will be on the road early next year.

Only my opinion - good luck with the project but you woke up this morning without a headache, so why go out & buy one?

hi att good luck with your mack bet you feel proud as punch waiting to see it finished it will b lusregards rowland

Simple innit…Because an easy life is not for me, never has been.
Simple and easy life is for those who have no ambition and lack drive.
I have done many things in my life that have been dangerous and challenging, this is a walk in the park.
Everything is relative, we are all different, you see it as a headache, I see it as an opportunity to learn, extend my skills and a rewarding experience.
Brakes are already free`d off :sunglasses:

I have already restored a Diamond Reo that was in a field for 10 years, this has been inside for 23, so it is comparatively easier…
