So whats your pros and cons for canada V england visa versa. Just wanting peoples opinions really not sure if this kind of thread has been made before, i’m sure it has if so i’m sorry but i’m curious and want to know
7’s or 15’s,no comparison England everytime
Canada everytime, but only if you’re prepared to adopt the when in Rome philosophy, it’s a less stressful more fulfilling life over here in my opinion, living standards are higher and people are far more friendly and you don’t have to hang your head in shame when youi admit to being a lorry driver
In england i tell everybody i work in a gay bar, its less embarassing than telling them i am a truck driver…

yup agree 100% ,you put it over better than i could…
jimmy.
There is much, much more to it than the working life. At risk of even more ■■■■■■■■ being put on here from our normal crew of happy souls who will doubtless come along, I will try to explain.
I have been here five years and then a bit more. I have no intention of going back to the UK. The pace of life here is as you choose to make it, but you will get no further ahead if you try to race as nobody else is likely to. In general, you would find that people here are not only prepared to help you out, but they actually want to help you out and consider it part of their everyday lives. I know this for a fact, and have first hand experience of the helpful nature.
The country itself is far easier going than the UK for drivers.

Cheers for the post, never realised you had to hang your head in shame admitting your a lorry driver in the uk, always thought they are known as wheel jockeys in the UK seem to be to the public

I can always guarantee on you to give a insightful post, the normal crew of happy souls I am expecting to get abit of stick from them, and tell me how I shouldn’t do it but I’m asking opinion of Canada V England, with peoples pros and cons for both.
Would like to say thank you for the very insightful post and your opinions on it!

I’ve not done anything, Sounding like my mum telling me not to do something Only asking of opinions And if i choose to move to Canada I can’t for some time so Canada is safe for now Canada everytime, but only if you’re prepared to adopt the when in Rome philosophy, it’s a less stressful more fulfilling life over here in my opinion, living standards are higher and people are far more friendly and you don’t have to hang your head in shame when youi admit to being a lorry driver

Sorry Gremmie!! Didn’t mean to mis-lead you. Even still, Canada would probably win with Englands pathetic attempts of a football team but i’m not a football fan so i’m good!
Just wanting peoples opinions on pros & cons of England & Canada and basically which wins your vote. Just curious really, as it’s something I’m interested in doing but, learning to walk before I can run and hopefully won’t fall on my arse on the ice!
Another question for folks, when you said to family & friends you wanted to move to Canada, did they ever ask you the question ‘Are you going to be driving on the Ice roads’ because when i tell folk that, they always think it’s the ice roads
If you’re thinking of doing the ice roads then while you’re still at school pay special attention in woodwork
The thing with your question is that you’re asking people who are still here, people who have been here and didn’t like it or people that have never been here, each one will have a different point of view depending on which category they fall into

I’m considering getting a job in a gay bar, I’m sure it’s more rewarding financially.
I don’t think you can compare the two countries, not fairly anyway, canada is so vast and each province has something different, it would be like someone asking about europe and being told the same thing for each country. prices and cultures vary from one part to another too just like the center of london does to the center of erm…( don’t want to ■■■■ any one off here ) so lets say bradford for example. but on the whole i will say canada everytime. i will have been here for 8 years this summer and have not been back to the uk once. as for ice road truckers, it was not on the tv then at least not like now, and should be on the comedy channel.
I am too long in the tooth to consider moving out there even if they would have me, but there is certainly a debate burning, often on these forums. The ones who went and failed come back very bitter and twisted, the ones who are still out there are either very very happy or becoming very bitter and twisted.
One thing I have read on many forums, not just lorry forums, is the amount of money the Canadian agents are making out of it, some have done it themselves but there are more posts on the internet about agents wanting $1000 or £500 quid to fill in a form or two
I remain bitter and twisted in my own country

Likewise!
jonnytruckfest, go & see for yourself if you can get a chance, theres a huge difference between here & there & after a spell over there it really shows you what Great Britain has become. I’ve been & had a go & am really happy I did, I came back for romantic reasons & would probably still be there if I had’nt followed my ■■■■, & if BFS had’nt withdrawn my job offer I’d probably be back there with Mrs Fly sheet & my ■■■■
In all seriousness your standard of living is far better as are 99% of the people around you, in North America everybody is somebody regardless of job title/wealth etc & everybody will go out of there way to help you. A fine bunch of people them Canadians.

Excellent point you’ve made Sir.In Canada people treat you for how you are,not how many bedrooms there are in your house,or what series BMW is on the driveway.
Good point fly sheet, i had forgotten about the class distinction thing, guess i have been here to long to think about it but… a typical example is right on my doorstep, our laneway is shared with the neighbours who are both pharmasists and own drug stores ( chemist shops ) have a big house, cabin etc etc. yet we have a beer or wine anytime together and they would do anything for us. he even clears the snow off the laneway with his bobcat! when i came over before the move to buy the house the then owner took me round to meet them, when i was asked what work i would be doing i of course told them, then i was asked would i be bringing a semi home, erm… yeah i might!,i asked would this be a problem!! hell no they said, where would we be without truck drivers.would that happen in the U K…no.
