Hi, Could anyone give me some company names that I could approach regarding employment in the York area.

What are the agencies like ? Which ones should I avoid?

Depends what experience you bring with you. A. Rhodes do a lot for Portakabin so experience of HIAB/wide loads might help you out. In times past I did some work for Terry’s (different companies have run the fleet at different times) but they’ve gone now, however, Nestle Rowntree are still there (not sure who’s doing their transport just now).

If you’re prepared to travel a bit Morrisons (Household Potatoes) are at Flaxby, just next to the A59 York - Harrogate. Similar distance from York but towards Boro’bridge is Reed Bordall; some would tell you to avoid the place though.

Terry’s chocolate at York has shut down, I think that it was last year that they closed. Used to deliver there regularly a few years ago and always visited the staff shop to get some bags of ‘waste’ :smiley: As I am from York, it is sad that it has gone after been there for about 150 years. The site is going to be transformed in to houses, I’ve been told, and as it is right next to the racecourse I’ll bet that they’ll be out of my price bracket :open_mouth:

nestle is still in house transport they have a lot of subbies you could try g e smith at malton ,devereux have a yard in york (good tackle)also try millfield haulage hope these help :smiley:

I’m (was) also from York and last I heard from folks back home (inside info, I think!! :wink: ) was that the developer who bought Terry’s factory has kinda cocked-up!! Turns out that the building is ‘listed’ or something and so can’t be flattened for houses. I think they’ve had to make a rapid ‘plan B’ which is something along the lines of turning the place into a ‘business park’!! Nowhere near as lucrative as housing!! :laughing: :laughing: :laughing:

iirc the only part that is listed is the clock tower

Reed Bordall at Boroughbridge are always looking - Bulmers are another at Malton.

I used to do part time for Driver Hire in York and they seemed sound
