Ellesmere Port, South Wirral and Chester Firms

Were Nickersons the same Nickerson who had a chemical plant in Dewsbury.

I do seem to remember the Saviem dealer were originally from Lincolnshire.

I’ve copied this one from of my threads from 2008 :- Not a Chester firm as such, but next time you’re strolling through the Cross in Chester City Centre and the Town Crier is in full flow - pause for thought - that loads like this once passed though there… a DH Comet 2 fuse en-route from Belfast to Broughton taken in about 1957. This was the only Comet 2 fully completed at Broughton although the factory went on to built 40 Comet 4’s between 1958-64. - Mind you that Scammell looks far more impressive to me! Shame it doesnt happen any more, it would make those shopping trips into town with the Mrs worthwhile

I have been reading this thread with great interest i remember george mayers yard in saltney it was next to my dads industrial unit.I remember as a kid rushing out to see the lorries off in the morning a lovely sound it was too.Hi cons i also worked for edge for about two years good co to work for in my opinion.Had some lovely motors and used to love reading the old stories that are on the walls in the office.I had the great pleasure of driving the new man mxo6 dxr it was my pride and joy and looked after it as if it were my own.Say hello to all the drivers well the ones that were there when i was there, especially ian bit old and cantanqerous but a really nice bloke who always looked out for me.Gareth i think he does the hub run was in contact with him but lost his phone no.Alan in the warehouse, keith, mark, chris, phil, simon all good lads. Not last richard in the office a sound bloke.

acd1202:
George Mayers Atki tipper, although it did later turn into a Merc 1619, carried Red Oxide powder, it was a by-product of some process or other I know not in Shotton.

Shotton hauliers let me think;

The local ones
George Mayers
JH Hourd
J & T Pownall
C. Sproston
Harris Road Services, later Nexus
BRS Wrexham
Rowley Powell
L. Linfield & Sons
Drurys, later bought by Sunhill
Websters
GPP Transport, Paul and Gary Perks
Mollingtons, did international
David Hatswell
Springfield Haulage
Alf Parry & Son
J. Shone & Son

Those from further away

The Direct Transport, Gobowen
Cadwallader, Oswestry
A & H Davey (Roadways), Stoke
FF & P Walker (Ockbrook), Derby
Hurdsman, Oswestry
TK Gornall (zb), Longridge
Smalley & Simpson, Clitheroe
Burnholme Transport, later R.F. Dixon, Penrith
Fret Francais, Stoke, international
then there was a firm from Cannock with maroon ERFs whos name escapes me for the minute
and those from Oswadtwistle with green ERFs who sold out to Wilf Holden from Blackburn who I really should remember.
plus some more who escape me for now, plus subbys.

Midlands Shotton hauliers included…Maroon ERFs…WG Hargreeves, very smart units and 8 leggers, with Gardner 8 pots, also Robinsons, brown Atki and seddon atki 400, driven by Ray…?, from salop was cadwalleders, swains, etc…happy days
