I’ve not been in there for about 20 years. So my opinion is possibly a bit out of date[emoji6], but it was always a quicker load than Caberboard at Cowie. Two straps per stack, three sheets, and I was off. Then again I’m used to slippy steel so laminated chipboard was a walk in the park.
I pulled out of there loaded at 10pm a couple of weeks ago from 2 in the afternoon !
First you do your induction, then walk back to the lorry park were everyone now waits, scan your induction on the reader in the booth, then put in your collection ref, take seat back in truck and wait for your reg to flash up on the big screen telling you to drive to the weighbridge, weigh in,take ticket which tells which lane to que up in, que up and watch another screen display your reg and tell you which shed to go in, manage to find a gap in said shed and then your in another que to be loaded, get loaded , put 20 straps on, weigh out, get paperwork from printer at weighbridge, pull back onto lorry park over road, pull curtains round, go to sleep and vow never to set foot in the ■■■■■■■ place again !!!

I remember following 2 of Howdens coming off the M6 heading into Penrith (5 or 6 yrs ago?)
The lights coming up the slip were on green the second truck took the corner too fast and ended up on it’s side …there was deffo a bit of sawdust on the road that night and a lot of board.
Given we’re pulling 20,30,40 loads a day out of Egger you’re going to eventually get a plum who ■■■■■ it up - they don’t get a second opportunity. Trouble is that the likes of Keedwells etc are turning up to their customers with damaged packs etc on a daily basis but can’t afford to bin a driver who does because they struggle like hell to recruit staff.
Yeah, just like all Howdens drivers cut you up after they overtake you.
Well, one forced me onto the hard shoulder the other week, so it stands to reason that they are all like that.

That makes 2 of us then ND. I was coming south on the M6 past Carlisle one night a few weeks back with a full tank and came up behind one of theirs doing about 50mph on the flat. Went past, no dramas, then 60 seconds later he’s in lane 2 flat out trying to come past me. He had the edge on me as mine only does 89 but I was coming to the start of the steep climb up to Southwaite after the A6 so kept my toe in. He gets half way past me then his DAF heap ran out of steam on the hill so he put his indicator on and just started moving into my lane when I didn’t yield to him . All he had to do was stay where he was and slot back in behind me and then once on the flat he could have tried again and I would have knocked the CC back and let him go
I missed the lights at Penrith but caught up with him again on the A66. So much for the apparent rush he was in as he was only doing 28-29 mph through the 40 bits and 35 at best on the s/c sections before the main d/c section. Left him for dust on the climb up Stainmore.
Had the pleasure of experiencing their brand new singing and dancing hi tech system, when tipping and loading in there on Tues, totaling 4 and a half hours, and that was when it was fairly quiet. :shock
Christ knows what it’ll be like when it’s mega busy.
But this new system is much better, scanning everything yourself, self weighing a total of 4 times, can’t even have a quick nap when waiting in one of the queues in case you miss your reg on the screen, having to weigh in and out twice, join another queue each time…and generally ■■■■ about including having to put TWENTY straps on a load that only needed 10 in reality.
Oh yes, much better than weighing in right away, and the guy telling you which sheds to tip and reload in, do the business, then weigh out, and ■■■■ off out asap…oh yeh, a much better system now.
I bet the new alterations and infrastructure alone for all this cost an absolute fortune, but these guys still manage to keep their lucrative jobs funnily enough, however incompetent they prove to be…amazing innit.

It’s extraordinary…
How anyone can think they’re making things better by making them more complicated than before.
Sounds to me like someone’s trying to promote their own ‘non-job’ status, ludicrous salary, pension bens and company Audi A4 by doing something.
