Eddie Stobart Trucks and Trailers, Channel 5

You all seem to have had a great deal of fun over Stobarts 15 minutes of fame I thought it was a reasonable show for the public giving a reasonable insight into our industry.Errors were made we all make 'em.I was concerned however over the fitment of William Stobarts suit not the best quality for a man who has just cashed in shares to the tune of many £millions I certainly hope William improves his image before the next show and perhaps chooses to wear one of his companies uniforms.

I work casual from Leeds for stobarts, have done since last October , agency’s went dead sick and tired tired waiting for work and doing weekends cos I had only had 2 days in the week, I heard all the ■■■■ about stobarts, just like on here , and to be honest I was not bothered going I passed my assessment and the 1 day training at goole , and did agency work and the odd night or day shift for them, but lately I have jacked agency work in and worked for stobarts on days , They are still at Leeds still next year , but building somewhere in Normanton .
Not had my class 1 long,3 years worked at Arla , k &n ,British Bakery’s , countless haulage firms around Bradford and Leeds, but I love it at stobarts most of the drivers will do anything for you( lot of ex Irlams drivers there and they say its loads better then before) tesco work is a doddle, know most of the stores from Arla ,usual rdc work Asda , Morrisons, hardest work u get is to small cash and carry’s for coke , the work is a piece of ■■■■, some of the drivers moan ,but I love it I get 5 or 6 days a week ,days they don’t hassle you, I can start when I like and I can get £500 a week easy ,the planners are ok mostly or you just say cant do it simple , long has you ring the help desk if your late no worries they sort work out around you not the other way around
I am casual I like it that way cos I like variation and I have to look after my mum with her having a stroke, stobarts know this and are happy for me to call up and they sort me work out , any day I want , start times to suit, I guess I proved myself to them and they are ok about it, best firm I ver worked for , but 6 months to learn to drive a tanker? That is taking the ■■■■ , and u meet blokes like that mo anywhere, I for one would be gutted if I lost my job there .

Just seen this on BLB, I’m sure there’s a connection somewhere.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, it’s good of Stobbies to be so understanding. I hope it all works out for you and your Mum gets better.

I once attended an ADR course with a colleague and friend, whilst we were waiting for the training staff to arrive
my friend complained that he felt unwell. After a few minutes I became very worried about him and called 999.

He was taken to hospital and I informed Stobarts of the situation. The office asked me to stay with him and offer any assitance that I could, they then organised a car to bring his wife and daughters from Bristol to Stoke and stayed in constant contact with me to make sure that everything that could possibly be done to help was done.

Sadly Derek never regained consciousness and after his wife and daughters and the rest of his family had said goodbye to him, his life surport was switched off. He died from a massive inter cerebral bleed.

Stobarts really took care of Dereks family, from making sure all his insurance money was paid to organising his unit and trailer to take him on his last journey (Im proud to say that I was his driver on that sad day).

Any staff who wanted to attend the service were given time off or because we were on Euro work, tipped and ran empty to Bristol.

Office staff and management from Bristol,Warrington and Carlisle also attended.

A one off model of his truck was built by a model maker and presented to Dereks family, and the company did everything it could to help ease the pain of Dereks family during a very difficult time.

That is only one of a number of times I have seen Stobarts help people who have suffered from misfortune.

So R.I.P. Derek Parkes 26th september 2000.

Its a bit rich for us drivers to talk about other peoples figures is it not■■? How many can say they are built to measure!! Certainly not me thats for sure :unamused:

OWN UP then, how many people phoned Stobarts up and asked where the tyre pressure reading boots were available from■■?

Davnic:
I’ve just read an advert for the programme in a TV mag and it says that Stobarts trucks collectively drive the equivalent distance of going to the Moon and back 3 times every day.

IIRC from my school days, the distance to the Moon is 240,000 miles.
There and back 480,000 miles, x3 = 1,440,000 miles per day!

Is this right?
How many trucks do they run for [zb] sake?

In 2001 a photographer acquaintance of mine from Banbury travelled to Crick to photograph Stobarts 1000th truck (only to find its first trip immediately after the photographs was to Banbury!) since then they have acquired several companies and presumably at least some of the trucks as well, so I would guess they could be well on their way to 1500 (or perhaps I should say their bank is!)

Stobart spotter spotted lol
Woke up in newark this morning and this guy was running up and down the road taking pics of the units.

Looks like he wasn’t the only one out early with a camera.

For what it’s worth Lads my advice is don’t watch the programe,I didn’t,so what you don’t see can’t up-set you can it! We’ll soon sus out the saddo’s who do watch it though if the coments start again after the next instalment!!! I had the ESL book bought for me for 25p at a car boot sale a few years ago which by the look of it was still in “brand new” condition.I tried to read it but soon found out that it was one of the finest “works of fiction” ever written! I would place it somewhere between Jeremy Clarkson and J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter. But in this case the “Boy Wizzard” came from Hesket Newmarket. Hope this post can be in no-way construed as offensive to the sponser’s as I am only trying to calm the lads down as its silly to get wound up over low grade television that is only meant for consumption by the “great un-washed” who haven’t a clue about “our chosen industry”.Keep taking the tablets lads! Cheers Bewick.

Bloody I phone!!!
I meant to say that The people who know the most about stobbies are the people who’ve never worked here,I’ve had my ups and downs with them like most people do with their employers but on the whole they are ok to work for.

I don’t need to have worked for them to KNOW something about them. Until the law changed on holiday entitlement you lot were on 14 days hols when just about everyone else was on 20 days. So it was tempting to look at Stobart drivers in their collars and ties and shiny units and think they were contributing to it! As you can see in another thread Tossco have used Stobart to supply cheaper labour than their own drivers, making their own people redundant, not for the first time and probably not the last either. So if you’re looking for love and affection you’re in the wrong place fella.

Other 3rd party logistics companies are available!

nothing splits this board like a good old eddie stobart thread

the self proclaimed “britains favourite haulier” is not a big favourite within the transport industry it seems

Quite right Marty most drivers i have met in my time have defended there company be it good or bad the problem with Stobarts is they have gotten to the top of the heap on the backs of smaller companies that have gone under due to Stobarts way of working ,then on comes a tv programme with drivers acting like complete idiots giving the public the impression that all drivers are like that it is bound to inflame resentment at the end of the day we are all drivers good or bad Stobarts or another the banter was very funny with some very funny posts is it not possible to keep it that way.
