Chereau in Avranches.
Only went to Chereau once but was a regular at Lamberet in the 80s and 90s.
In the 80s with Smiths of Scotter we used to load the fridge boxes on a flat trailer as a back load to Lamberet in Warrington, but Tony Smith being the guy he was would then send us down to Avignon area to load wine in them and tip that at Liverpool before Warrington.
In the 90s whilst with G&S we used to run down there solo to pick up our new trailers that would already be lettered and then down to Spain to load.
I did a couple of Lamberet bodies on flats too. Held on with straps underneath on strong points. We would then put a “light” load inside it.
My very first euro job was solo to Germany, collect new Schmitz fridge, load Champagne and bring it back. Sweep out before delivering new(ish) trailer.
Never been a Schmitz fan, Gray and Adams have always been the sturdiest fridges IMO.
We did buy a couple SORs about 20 years ago, got them cheap on a cancelled order, cheap being the operative word.
Spanish not renowned for manufacturing fridge trailers of quality.
