I’m trying to build up a list of supermarkets that are easy to get to from major routes that you can park in or near in a lorry.
Basically I’m fed up of paying MSA prices and eating the junk that BP and Shell sell. As well as selling healthy food at a reasonable price you can also get spare clothes and washing stuff at most supermarkets if you get an unexpected night out.
Prime considerations are: must be close to a major trunk road and must have a place to park close enough to do your shopping in a 45 minute break. Open 24 hours would be useful.
The few I’ve found are:
1 Asda Brighton (Hollingbury) off the A27. You can park a rigid in the car park anytime of day with no problems and an artic at night. During the day you might be able to park an artic on the road outside if you’re lucky.
2 Tesco Chichester on the A27 bypass. There’s a large lay by on the A27 and Tesco is just round the corner
3 Tesco Basildon on the A127. Large lay by right ouside with a hole in the hedge for access. Just look out for the clock tower.
That’s all I’ve tried. Any more near the M4/M5/M6/M1/A1 would be greatly appreciated.
Bit reluctant to give away too many in case I can’t park myself these are some of my regulars (most of these are 24hr apart from Sainsburys, this is for artics). Don’t assume any large supermarket’s car park is worth a punt if half empty, plenty are designed purely for cars and you won’t get out without rearranging the landscape shrubbery or worse.
Tesco Dunstable - M1 Jn 11 In car park no problem if quiet or small industrial estate round corner (that ind est is an option for overnight parking but does get busy)
Tesco Beaumont Leys - M1 Jn 21a follow service road round for deliveries loads of parking, I often overnight here by the recycling bins but I would say that I have a white unit and usually pulling a blue curtain trailer that looks like a Tesco wagon.
Tesco Coventry - M6 Jn 3 Big one Ricoh Arena way not good if car park busy though
Asda Bury/Pilsworth Road off M66 - Park on service road to store delivery entrance
Asda Weston-Super-Mare - Park on ind est nearby or car park if quiet, this is quite a drag off the M5 to get there though. Asda Cribbs Causway as well but looks like lorries no longer welcome but you can park outside the car park. Also Asda Taunton just off the junction you can park on the road and turn further up but I’ve never liked the look of the car park.
Sainsburys Leeds/Selby Road - Junction 46 M1 just off motorway but only when quiet-ish but car park round the other shops in the retail park is generally quite quiet and you can find space to turn.
For the M4 there are Sainsburys (not 24hr) within reach of junctions 15 & 16 Swindon (Stratton & Bridgemead - Porsche dealer roundabout) and 17 Chippenham you can get an artic in once it’s quietened down in the evening at Chippenham. Swindon 16 Bridgemead is better to park on the road outside always really. Junction 15 is probably the best bet parking wise as you can park in the truck stop for Sainsburys any time of the day but probably furthest from the motorway and there’s a VOSA checkpoint at that junction, keep in the outside lane to make it harder for them to pull you in.
Tesco, Kingston, Milton Keynes. 24 hours.
M1 southbound, come off at J14-back on J13.
M1 Northbound, come off J13-back on J14.
Winchester Cir, Kingston, Milton Keynes MK10 0BA, UK goo.gl/maps/zMc3t
Park on Chippenham Drive, 5 minute walk to the store.Used to be able to park round the back of it but they put a charge on the rear car park so all the cars park on the road now.
Vikings Tip of the Day=
if they are queuing on the A421 for J13/Bedford, spin round the John Lewis Roundabout & head for M1 north/J14, then head south down the motorway, takes about 15 minutes to get to J13, a lot quicker than sitting for an hour + on that Poxy ‘single carriageway’ (should have been a dual carriageway) road to Hell.
Morrisons,Westcroft, Milton Keynes.
Handy if you are heading across country Cambridge/Oxford. Half a mile north of the A421.
19 Barnsdale Dr, Westcroft, Milton Keynes MK4 4DD, UK goo.gl/maps/0tLX0
Tescos 24hr Fleetsbridge Poole. Park up in the Nuffield I E across the road. Burger King and a pizza joint nearby also (walking distance). Tescos has a decent caff, too.

Spot on Viking.
J14 is still much easier to access than J13, even now after the many millions they spent on redoing the stretch between BP Wavendon and the new Magna Park. It’s still crap.
If your looking to overnight on Kingston, don’t park on Winchester Circle, lorries there get regular ticketing.
Theres a Tesco at J2 off the M6 with a small (2 artic) layby either side of the dual carriageway, usually with a snack van in each.
Access roads to the Tesco are double yellow, but usually see lorries parked up on Gielgud way outside Taybarn/ten pin.
Tesco’s Cosham (near Portsmouth). You can see it from the M27, heading East .
Address is Binnacle Way PO6 4FB. You can park on the road that runs along side of it, does get busy during the day though. There are some eateries there too.
You should be able to get in to all the tesco supermarkets, metro stores ,express stores etc,I could get in to them o.k so you should be fine,if you ask them they’ll let you use there canteens or at the little stores you can make yourself a brew and toast, girls are really good like that if you ask them, only did one morrisons and got in there no problem, just drive through the car park, swadlincote(think wheel nut lives round there),p.m him and I’m sure hell come and watch you in if your unsure, use there canteen it’s very cheap, just get him a brekkie for his help,

Britain being the petty NIMBY country that it is, the supermarkets will soon put a stop to drivers partaking in some thing as heinous as parking on an empty piece of tarmac.
It never used to cease to amaze me when some prick would try and move me on in the truck with words along the lines of “Theres a truckstop down the road, go to that”. They really do think that because there is a truckstop or services with parking for 20 trucks that all of the 200 trucks who actually want to park in the area can all cram in to it.
