Dundee Kingsway

The guy that designed that new r/about, at the Dundee Kingsway where the new Asda is being built didn’t do his homework :unamused: . If you are travelling South intending to turn right to the Truckstop, the lane is as tight as a/holes, you have a choice of staying in it and taking out the traffic lights on your offside, or straddling half the adjacent lane, and side swiping the traffic on your nearside. The guy obviously thought the r/about would be used by cars only, what a knob :unamused:
Somebody is going to come a cropper on there sometime soon.
It looks like the Construction industry is ran by the same type of people that run the haulage industry… those that know ■■■■ all about it in real terms

I remember reading somewhere (maybe on here) that all junctions and roundabouts are mapped out for space etc by computer. That means if it’s do-able by computer then it’s do-able on the actual road :open_mouth: :unamused: Many junctions need looking at in my opinion there is no where near enough room for us :imp:

It is’nt just some of the badly designed road layouts some RDC’S and alike are just as bad :open_mouth: For eg, ASDA Didcot (the old one) was a tight squeeze, i used too go there often when i was on for IMR and one day there was a couple of us there and this clown backed into my mates new 57 reg Scania, it happened so quick at the time :unamused: Designers think about cost more than h&s :unamused:

thank [zb] it aint just me that thinks that, northbound going straight on is the same.

The road lay out at the other end of Dundee is no better,I mean the Claypots junction where 3 lanes become 2 .I remember when it was a simple cross roads it then became a roundabout .Its just a mess now.

Northbound your trailer cuts in about 6ft into lane 2

You know what is hilarious though, look at the centre of the roundabout its massive, why have they made it so tight is beyond me

dri-diddly-iver:

Don’t blame the computer, they are thick. :open_mouth:
Computers only do what they are told. So if the wrong information is provided by a human the computer will give the wrong answer.
Hence why there is no such thing as a computer error.

that roundabout (or circle as they call them in Dundee) is brutal, I regularly have to turn right heading onto South Road from Perth, next time you are around that way have a look at that! you have to cut across 3 lanes in the space of 18ft :unamused:

Dundee’s latest infrastructure has become a joke all round. The Forfar road junction at the Shell garage used to be 2 roundabouts, now it’s Blackpool illuminations over a space of tarmac, likewise at the Morrisons at Fintry. It’s a free for all. That leaves the last word on the shambles at the Tay Bridge and Riverside. I swear whoever designs these places rides a bicycle, and not very good at it.

So you take the whole road and if traffic gets blocked then blame the road planners. I do it at the A1231/A19 junction. If i am turning right to head south onto the A19 i take the middle and outside lanes on the roundabout since the lanes are too narrow when they curve. Its safer to do the thinking for everyone else

Err…I did kind of suss that out for myself, I was merely pointing out the ineptitude of the traffic planners not asking how to negotiate the roundabout …but hey! thanks anyway

Hi Robroy , they did the same on the A82 at Dumbarton.

They built a new roundabout on the Renton bypass and in both directions you have to straddle both lanes.

If not you end out over the second lane as you pull onto the roundabout and either have a car take the front corner out your
unit ( as happened to one of our lads) or rip the side out the car with the headboard.

If you keep it tight in , your trailer takes the traffic lights out.
They have been replaced 3 times that I know of.

On the original roundabout at Dumbarton ( heading to Glasgow ) they stuck an extra lane in to turn right , but only added about half a width of a lorry to the road… I,m not that clever , but it ain’t all going to fit !!

So again , much to car drivers annoyance , you need to straddle the 2 lanes !.

The computer they are using to model them needs a swift kick out the window  .
