Dumbed Down Roads

So, on my travels I have noticed that stretches of single carraigeway A roads have had lower max speed signs put up, like the A15 from sunny scunny to lincoln which had always been an NSL road has now got a 40 and a 50 limit on it now, plus many more other S/C A roads.

Firstly motorways are becoming more of a liability than an asset through over regulation and traffic jams. The result being that more people are using A roads to avoid motorways. While the establishment seems to be adding to the problem by now trying to make it increasingly prohibitive to use A roads. In all cases over regulation with the aim of increasing speeding fine opportunities seems to be part of that agenda. :bulb:

Yes dumbed down for muppets that keep falling off the road A15 has been notourious for years but local athourities will not do the proper thing and improve the road ie dual it as this costs money just throw up a few signs its a lot cheaper ( also it will probably throw up alot of roman artifacts as well being ermine st which would cause delays and cost even more )

There’s plenty of examples around here with 50 limits going up all over the place on major A roads, despite there being no evidence that it’s speed which caused the accidents. It appears to be cheaper to do that and install average speed cameras, than actually fix the junctions where all the accidents happen, and they still happen just as frequently. A614 being a good example from A1 to Nottingham.

The A15 also has a shiny new area been made at the side, along the 40mph section, just big enough, oh I don’t know, for a transit van maybe…

The A15 between Scunthorpe and Lincoln is 50mph with a short stretch of 40mph. The 40 is where it’s narrow and to be fair 40 is plenty fast enough when there’s traffic coming towards to you.

They put 50 limits on the A642 Huddersfield to Wakefield road some years ago (40 past the Mining Museum and 30 through Lepton), with eleven speed cameras, of which no more than three are actually working. Without knowing which three, do you feel lucky or do you stay under the limits?

As pointed out, signs are cheaper than road improvements, whether the revenue from cameras covers the installation cost is another question.

the 40 limit still doesn’t stop the muppets going off road though.

It’s like coming off M5 J1 then A41 towards willenhall, some of it is a crappy 40mph,dual carriageway with hardly any junctions it’s a PITA 40mph on a perfectly decent road, like today usual Friday dash lol.
