Wheel Nut:
Well, Im sorry to ■■■■ on all the nay sayers bonfires, but I like my old 56 TGA. I did miss the Volvo I shift when I first moved house, but the rest of the truck makes up for it. The seats are the comfiest I have had in a truck, the cab is quiet, enough storage room for a week away with all the junk that entails. It has 4 or 6 cubby slots above head height to hold maps, instruction manuals and documents, 3 massive storage boxes where I once found a spare FH12 globetrotter
I have lost one of the outer storage boxes with the independant air conditioning unit but the other box will hold 25 ratchet straps and a dozen corner boards.
I like the switches around the gearchange, so I can operate the night heater, both windows, sunroof, cab lights and air con from the bunk, the document holders either side of the gearstick are also very handy, as is the thoughtful clip for a pen.
My biggest complaint is due to the fact that the company have spoiled the dashboard by fastening our Transics system and cabphone to it losing a couple of welcome gubbin boxes.
My biggest fear is the fact that I saw a couple of Mercedes under evaluation or God forbid that we will be given a Scania to drive next year when the truck is due for replacement.
I’ve had a 57 auto for the past 16 weeks and the best part of the day is when I get out of the cab …
… because I don’t feel as though I’ve done a shift in it.
The auto box may not be as good as the Actross but it’s pretty decent. The seats are the comfiest I’ve sat in. The whole ergonomics of the dash are spot on. A/c and climate control are easy to use and work easy. The bed is excellent. The mirror controls are in the right place and work all 6 mirrors. The engine pulls well and the engine break is superb.
Then simply plug in the back of the stereo, select AUX on the source menu, and ipod/tv/laptop through stereo. Much better quality than those FM jobbies and cheaper too!!!
cant belive there are people on here who own/drive an actros talkin about realibilty issues when i had one the only plce i ever visited was the merc dealership to have the electrics looked at again rather have a bedford tk than an actros again still have sleepless nights thinking about the things now
Drove a 58 plate auto MAN last week, lovely!! Still the comfiest motor I’ve driven but…
I don’t have much experience with auto’s so it may be I’m doing something wrong
When empty it would choose 3rd to start off then block change to 5th, just what I would do, except that it takes so long to make the change. Not good on roundabouts when you see a nice big gap & go for it, only to be hung out to dry while it takes the rest of the month to change up!
We have a 58 reg TGS 8x4, manual box and I have a driver on it, although I have drove it empty a few times. The gear change is awful, she baulks terribly when you go into low range. Fuel consumption is about on par with a 450 CAT but she doesnt go anywhere as well [its a 440]. The actual driving position is really good and she is very quiet and as our yard is in a built up area thats nice. Our dealer {Aquila Worcs] isn’t too hot either. Mirror glass was £89.37 ouch.
If any one has a similar problem with the gear change I would like to know as MAN/ZF don’t seem to know anything
Well thats the 1st day over in my new truck.
The mirrors i agree are cack. Ive had to stop at least 5 times today to get out and clean them. The microwave wont fit in the top cupboard so im going to get a bracket fitted and put it over the bed
The gearbox isnt as good as the i-shift but its better than the opticruise scania (in my opinion)
Other than that its very comfortable and has plenty of storage, the engine pulls well, the engine brake is ok as long as you get it down the box.
The steering wheel is on the wrong side though
If anyone spots me hogging two lanes tomorrow its cos i`m still learning!

aww come on john, you’ve had worse…much worse…the words GREEN PREMIUMS spring to mind
Or Jb you could take the top mattress off, cun n shut the bed frame to kitchen unit size and put half of IKEA up there like this German dude i saw in Swindon had done!!! Lovely storage solution!!!
