Drove a 07 plate MAN yesterday &

if its x corby motor it will be anyone and everyone in it days or nights so thats why it will be in a state

really? Thats a surprise. I thought corby, fowler welch etc all had a truck allocated to a driver. Except when the driver is not at work of course. It makes sense to me. Ifa driver has his or her own wagon they are more likely to look after it. I thought all the bigger hauliers had that philosophy. I never leave a mess inside a cab but if i have the same truck for a week i put more effort into it than when i have 1 for a day.

corby didnt tramp me mate works at one of there depots(now stobbies)start times are funny different motor every day :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

tesco allocate as do iceland. Those trucks are in better condition than the fleet that are in a pool. Obviously the trucks will go out if tie driver isnt there to drive it but there is a noticeable difference. Plus another driver is more likely to give it a wipe over inside if its looked after. Pool vehicles are more likely to have bits broken than allocated vehicles. Most drivers take pride in the wagon if its ‘their truck’ so to speak.

Well, Im sorry to ■■■■ on all the nay sayers bonfires, but I like my old 56 TGA. I did miss the Volvo I shift when I first moved house, but the rest of the truck makes up for it. The seats are the comfiest I have had in a truck, the cab is quiet, enough storage room for a week away with all the junk that entails. It has 4 or 6 cubby slots above head height to hold maps, instruction manuals and documents, 3 massive storage boxes where I once found a spare FH12 globetrotter :stuck_out_tongue:

I have lost one of the outer storage boxes with the independant air conditioning unit but the other box will hold 25 ratchet straps and a dozen corner boards.

I like the switches around the gearchange, so I can operate the night heater, both windows, sunroof, cab lights and air con from the bunk, the document holders either side of the gearstick are also very handy, as is the thoughtful clip for a pen.

My biggest complaint is due to the fact that the company have spoiled the dashboard by fastening our Transics system and cabphone to it losing a couple of welcome gubbin boxes.

My biggest fear is the fact that I saw a couple of Mercedes under evaluation or God forbid that we will be given a Scania to drive next year when the truck is due for replacement.

I’ve had an 07 XXL since new after a string of top of the range Volvo’s.

If i were a day driver i’d sooner have an I-shift Volvo as the box wins hands down over the MAN.

But for a week away, no contest, the TGA is like a hotel! It helps that mine is specced well with fridge and Microwave etc etc. But the space is what makes it for me. I sleep up top which means the Bottom bunk is left up and out the way, with the drivers seat on full length runners a la 4 series Scania, giving great living room.

The seat is marvelous and the bed very comfy. Ok the fit and finish on the old model like mine aint perfect but its good enough!!! I wouldnt change mine now for the world! The only motor i may swap for would be a 4 series Classic, you can keep the R Series ta, heap of junk!!!

the trend up here is the opposite. boots replaced their 55 plate FMs with 56 plate TGAs. bookers replaced their old actroses with TGAs last year. tradimar have a few TGXs and are still replacing the older motors with more of them. i think sainsburys have TGAs too. MAN are doing a good job up here and i certainly wont complain about that :sunglasses:

Drive one ocasionally, ok but steering wheel to big & dont like the switch position for gearbox.Engine brake very good
drive Actross most of the time MAN beats them on comfort

im still not convinced beds are decent thats about it :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Come away from the light Dreva :stuck_out_tongue: …seriously if they can sort the problems out why not but until then

Apparently our new truck’s are at the dock’s■■?

Hoyer who have had a contract with Scania have fallen out. So they have gone with MAN… now when I was at Salvesen’s I had an 05 tga and I loved that ( never had any probs with it )

So I am quite looking forward to driving the new one, but I’m not sure yet if we’re getting the tgx or the tgs.

Reliability has got to be a must… our scania’s on 52 plates have covered 1 million km & are still running sweet!!! covering up to 600k per 12 hour shift twice a day…

no ed the beds are fine just rest of it pooh
give me a stralis anyday

a local bulk tipper hauler down the road from me has a fleet of 50 man tgas or tgx, im not entirly sure, a+j nelson for anyone who knows,

great trucks too look at and they sure do keep up the speed going up hills, i always get passed by them even when im empty and i have 400hp under my right foot.

MAN’s are cheap and nasty, especially inside, still (57 reg) very poorly designed, dash, air vents, mirror arms way too long, left leg problem, and more. Having said that, I think I’d rather drive a MAN than a Merc or Scania.

Im moving into one of these next week. Ive a few questions?
Do they have an electric roof? (im 5 11`` but it looks a long way up to reach)

Do they all come with armrests on the drivers seat?

Are there controls on the back wall ala volvo for the windows/radio and lights

Does the radio work without the ignition on?

I had a microwave in my front middle cupboard in my scania (and volvo before that). Will a small household microwave fit in the man?

Thanks for any replies

I drove an XXL too this week(mon & tues), and although a decent motor, I too found the steering wheel too big, the autobox in a pretty daft position and the mirrors are absoulutely KAC!

Prefered the gobstopper I had for rest of week though…that I-shift really takes some beating

i can remember when i drove stobbies man’s they had the fridge built in. but i was very impressed with the whole of the vehicle itself.

Had this for 3 years now! The best truck i’ve ever driven, came off a 144 scania & wouldn’t go back to them,
Me new one comes home next week!

I’ve just finished doing a 14 week stint in a brand new TGX on bulk tipper work and I loved it to bits. It was a really nice drive, comfy and quiet. The only downside I found was that the front overhang is too low to the ground for bulker work really as it scrapes on the ground in a lot of the farms I had to go to and annoyingly scraped badly enough to rip it off at one which resulted in a lot of new bits of plastic being needed for the frontend…

Other than that nothing broke or fell off it at all. Paul

Wish I could say the same for my 55 reg TGA even the paint fell off mine
