As your supposed to take breaks as 15 min then 30 mins ( or 45 min as a 'lump ')
Is it right that the driving time is reset on my display after taking a 30 then a 15 min break ?
Surely it should display brak taken but not then reset the driving time .?
It’s a first generation Siemens unit . Badged up as a Volvo in a 57 plate fh if that makes any difference .?

A lot will reset the driving time after 3 x 15 min breaks or by recording POA
None of us can understand why the software has not been done properly when its so easy with todays technology

First generation digital tachographs recognised breaks of 15 minute segments so would reset the driving time on the display after three 15 minute breaks, or any combination of 15 minute segments that totalled 45 minutes.
Cheers guys , I’m gonna have to be a bit more carefull in future then as I already have a few infringements for insuffient break , I understand why now ! I.e. Don’t trust the proxy tachograph to tell you !
Take a minimum 16 minutes, then a minimum 31 minutes or a total minimum 46 minutes, that way I’ve never had an infringement for insufficient break.
I’ve always taken at least a 31 minute second break on my ‘New’ tacho, so I’m not sure if it will reset after 3 x 15s.
It resets to driving time if you’ve had 45 mins POA though & it only records the actual driving time & doesn’t round it up to the next minute. I find it a lot easier than my 11 plate with the old tacho, seemed to eat up the driving time, especially in traffic jams & queue’s.

New ones will only reset after 15+30, no idea if it happens with POA, that’s a mode I’m not familiar with!
I’m sure the early one would reset driving with any combination of breaks as in a 20+25 or 28+17.

And the new tachos? Do they know the rules? (Still haven’t used one much so would like to know).
Never trust what the display says on a tacho unless you have taken a printout and confirmed the display is correct. The only exception to this is when the vehicle is stationary and you use the scroll function to see what you two weekly driving hours are. I am afraid that these tacho’s are just way too basic in their design and can offer misleading information.
My tacho reset the driving time after two 25 minute breaks the other night. Obviously I stopped for a half hour break before my driving time was up, but as far as the tacho head was concerned I was good to go despite not actually having had half an hour break.

Under the old pre 2007 rules any two breaks which were 15 mins minimum but added up to at least 45 mins would be ok for 4.5 hours driving time
